Its been a while since I put a modern lever shift 904 into an early A.

I seem to remember it being a little tight....above the levers to the tunnel/floor. I SEEM to remember banging a little relief (3x3 area - 1/2" up) to make more room.

I can't remember for sure, and haven't found any past picts.

So...has anyone else had to do this?????

Mine fit fine after I notched the half-moon trans tunnel brace. Sorry, don't have a pic at the moment. I'm also running a cable shifter.

my later 904 fits with said tunnel seam pounding. I think the sector shaft levers were close but didnt pose any interference. Its pretty tight down there. Would be wise to install the linkage then raise tranny crossmember up and mount.

pounded down the seam. pounded a bit of a relief near the existing little relief.

From the inside, looks like a small 4 spd bump! carpet will fit it fine, no worries. I just don't want to have to do it with the tranny installed!
