So I'm putting together my first motor. 1979 360. We tore it down, cleaned it, then started to put in the Mopar 284/484 cam in it. Got the cam in, lifters, timing chain, heads, and pushrods installed back. When we tried bolting down the rocker arms, the pushrods wouldn't even touch them. I pulled out a lifter and compared it to an old one. The new lifters are shorter and deeper. My dad has done the same set up multiple times and reused the pushrods. (Keep in mind that this is just a motor for fun, no hard RPMs or racing)
Did they send me the wrong lifters or am I going to have to replace the pushrods? I checked the parts # and it's the right cam.
This is my first engine build so I'm still learning. Any help would be appreciated.
Old on the left, new on the right.
