Just finished watching the Top Gun movie on the TV, and brought back some memories of my Air Force years that began 50 years ago.
Who would have thunk it, where the years have gone.
Did 7 years, active duty, during the 1970's.
Anyway, i was a crew chief on the RF-4C, Phantoms, when those dinosaurs flew.
The military sure gave me lots of responsibility maintaining these high performance aircraft when i was a kid in my 20's back in the day.
Wondering if any members, or visitors, on this site were in the Air Force, as flight line, crew chiefs, like me, or specialists that these aircraft also required?
Now that I'm an old man, i would like to make contact with anyone that would like to e mail with me that might currently be active duty Air Force, that might be working on the new F-35's, F-22's, or even the F-15's, or F-16's, which are now older planes, in the inventory.
Or the F-4's during your enlistment.
If you were Navy, wouldn't mind talking with you also. I don't discriminate between the services. lol
Thank's for reading all this.
Had to ask somewhere.

Kitty and I just watched it a few days ago. I thought it was pretty good.

I never served (long story) but my preacher put in 7 or 8 years in the airforce
But state side near Kokomo (forget the name of the base) and in at Hahn AFB in Germany

Now, I did grow up just about 2 miles from a combined Dutch/USAF base in the Netherlands, for what that's worth

I was in the Air Force back in the early 80s, 83 is when I got out. I was stationed at Pope Air Force Base, I went to school at Chanute, now closed. The new Top Gun movie to me is better than the first one. I like them both. This article reminds me of the movie.

I served 86~92 and also went through Chanute for my tech. school.

Thank you for your service. As far as the movie goes, I was very disappointed. Worse Tom Cruise movie ever. Corny throw back. Special effects were great but the story line sucked..

Looking at fighter jets today, the F-4's look like monsters! I remember watching The Thunderbirds at Myrtle Beach Air Force Base back in the late 60's or very early 70's, and I want to say they were flying F-4's at the time but can't remember.
Thanks for your service Jim. You were wrenching on those birds about the same time I was in Air Force Junior ROTC in high school. Squadron Commander my senior year, but that's as far as I ever went.
I liked the new Top Gun movie better than the first one. Glad you're gonna get it.

I really enjoyed it there. A lot of history at Chanute. Do you remember the saying you can shoot me but don’t Chanute me.

I got a copy as a Christmas gift. It is a good one!

Don't recall that one... there were lots...lol. I do recall when we got our first base assignments the reoccurring theme was "whynot Minot..."..

My favorite program was always baba black sheep LOL...
I seen Maverick on an airplane going to Florida a couple months ago and it occupied a couple hours for me. It was okay...

Best thing about Top Gun Maverick was the motorcycles. But I may be biased as I just set my youngest boy up with an old Kawasaki Ninja 900R, which was what Cruise rode in both movies, until the end of Maverick when he broke out the new one.
