what e clip for a hyd lifter retainer

I want to run E clips in my hyd lifters like Hughes recommends since I will be running zero or close to zero preload. Huyett.com only has 750 of them to choose from. they give a fractional dimention for each but not sure what they are measuring (I would assume OD). thank you for your time. RR
 
E-clips are for out side diameter grove on a shaft. Spiral locks or snap rings can be used on an inside groove. I wouldn't know how you would install or remover an E-clip on the inside application
 
I see what you are saying about the install/removal. what got me thinking along those lines is Hughes offering a better snap ring in their racing lifters as opposed to that thin clip. the crower site is down.
 
Crower has them, use the link and search hydraulic lifter snap rings. 65'
 
I have used Tru Arc snap rings for 50 years available
at any auto parts stores, i do not remember the #.
 
Yes, if you do not have calipers or a mic.
to measure.
They really make a difference if you are
turning 6000 plus = to not break the clips
all the time.
 
6200 rev limiter (class rules). I am going to try uncle tonys garage no preload
If this is for your IMCA hobbystock, 6200 rpm is the rev limit for a 602 chevy crate motor. 7000 is the rpm limit for a claim motor like your 318.

maximum 6,200 rpm for crate engine and maximum 7,000 rpm for claim engine.

The lifter clips pop out from lifter pump up. Use sol lifters, no pump up.

I stand corrected, yes it is 7K for claim engines like mine. John how do I reduce lifter travel? I will take the old clip in & see if they can match it. I'd like to go roller on my next one but rules say no

The rules allow the use of a solid lifter cam. Why did you choose a hydraulic?
 
Nothing wrong with using what you have.
 
not sure why they object to a roller, with flat tappet cam failures epidemic it'd sure be a big help to go that way
 
I shim the plunger while clip is out.
I usually leave about 15 thou for drag racing.
NHRA in teardown in Stock until a few years ago
used to check to make sure some oil bubbled out
of the lifter back when Hydraulic lifters were required.
I still run the same camshaft today(200 on seat) with Schubeck Ceramic
lifters. It sees 7700 some times when needed.
My boy in same class runs Billet cams ($1000) and tool
steel coated solids ($900) and 300 Lbs on the seat. He has
catastrophic failures every 30 or 40 runs.
They both run about the same mid 10s ET @3300+

Couple of questions if you don't mind answering. What did you use to shim the plunger? How did you adjust the the rocker? Thank you.
 
Generic Washers
I bottom the lifter with a .010. feeler gauge under the
Rocker/Valve but you could just adjust the rocker until it
is hard to turn by hand and that would be close enough if
you have shimmed them. With stock lifters in the race car I
would adjust them until pushrod is fairly tight plus a 1/4 turn.

Run solid lifters and tight lash them.
