I have a clean California car and don't want to hack the floor or trans tunnel, I have a 440 with a 727 now would a gear vendors be the answer or ??? Needs to handle 500hp and big block torque. Thanks!

Running a vendors behind my 904 very serious amount of hammer time 10 pounds of crap in a five pound bag, less than 1/4" of clearance , tti h pipe needed a flat spot but it's awesome

Let Jamie Passon build you one.

Well if you go on G/V website they claim they can handle like 1000Hp. So I'm sure 500 would not hurt it.

My painter put a GVOD behind a 727 in a 69 Barracuda Fastback. Minor clearance with a hammer. Said it fits better with a 727 than a 904.
I don't have any personal experience with these guys, maybe someone here has.

This is what I would like to go in our 69 Barracuda Fastback project.
We have a ways to go...

I put one in my 1967 notch. Stock exhaust manifolds with accurate dual exhaust. I lowered my transmission crossmember 1" to get tunnel clearance. Tight fit but it is in and I am happy with it. Stock out of box they claim something like 750 hp and can be ordered up to 1200 hp. Like anything it is a lot of work and studying to do but worth it.

I've had one in my fat blu fish for 8 years and have ran it all over the place. AWESOME! Cruising down the highway at 70 with a mellow growl from the engine is sweet.

A bit loud (Clunk) when it down shifts but it definitely handles the HP and torque. Works for me and I run 3:55's with a 727 behind a 500 big block.

727 "SHORTIE" OVERDRIVE TRANSMISSIONS

This is what I am planning to go in our 69 Barracuda Fastback project.

I currently have a 727 with a big block, 355 gear, it's a badass stop light to stop light but just screaming cruising down the road, I want to drive it from Chicago to California down Rt 66 but it will never make it the way it is, unless I drive 40 the whole way. I saw two different versions on the GV website , shorts and longs, I would assume the short would fit better.

Which one are you guys running?
Any with Manual Shift Reverse Valve Body?

Part # 3DFS727A Automatic 3-Speed 727 18″ Tailhousing
Part # 3DFS731A Automatic 3-Speed 727 8″ Gas Tailhousing
Part # 3DFS732A Automatic 3-Speed 727 Shorty

I have a 727 with a manual Turbo Action valve body, I called GV last week and they recmmended the 18 inch and said it works very well with the manual valve body, they told me the short version would be too bulky and would require more hammer time on the floor.

That gvod is not cheap!

Love to put one in my dart later on.

Reverse manual in mine as well. I'm running the shorty and I did have to massage my tunnel a bit. I would have gone with the longer version if i'd had known.

looks to e like the long version would have big effect on the pinion-driveshaft angle. anybody checked theirs / I ve got a 727 behind a 440/505, dana 60 in my 68fish, w/ 373 gears. would like to have a gear vendors, but the price is outa site !

Reverse Valve Body Manual Shift with Factory A-Body Auto Console, Shifter and Linkage?
Without cutting/modding/fabbing tunnel or cross members?
Bolt up to G3 Hemi?
Looks like about $2519 before shipping. $650 adapter and $1869 Trans with non LU TC. + $$ for any mods?

Have a 727 already and Cheetah MSRVB.
Add GVOD for $2795 with free shipping through Christmas. Shorten drive line. Massage tunnel, all factory linkage, shifter and console.
Does what I need it to do and not much more cost assuming the 2004r is a straight bolt in replacement that does not require cutting or welding the tunnel or custom linkage or cross member. If there is cutting, fabbing and welding... probably a wash.
And it's a GM... that alone pretty much kills it for me.
Don't get me wrong, I love my Duramax/Allison but I'll keep them my Sierra 4x4 Crew Cab.

2.76s in the housing for the trip.... 4.10s in the trunk for the race...

30 mins to change once you get there but way cheaper !

Done it several times...

I'd skip Monster trans. Their transmissions are only rated to handle a touch over stock, 350 hp. Skip the Wilcap adapters too. They are a primitive way to adapt the 200R4. Gear Vendors is like a bandaid overdrive. Too little of an overdrive ratio for too much $. If you are going to do it right, it's going to cost you. I find real .67 overdrive is worth every penny.

I put a 200R4 in my '68 A-Body. It's the best automatic transmission I've ever driven, and one of the best upgrades I've done on my car. I have 3.91's and 28" rear tires. The car launches visiously and can cruise all day at 2500 rpm at 80 mph.

There is a kit from US Cartool available to install them now. You will have to alter the torsion bar crossmember, but not the floor. I used a Reid bellhousing to adapt mine to my Magnum.

I used a 3600 rpm stall converter with the 3 carbon fiber clutch pack from Precision of New Hampton. It makes the transmission feel like a 5 speed automatic. It's awesome.

The bell housings are available to adapt the 200R4 to Small Blocks, Big Blocks, Hemi's and Gen3's. They can be built to hold 750 to over 1000 hp. Lenny at Extreme Automatics is the man to talk to.

Looks like a sweet setup!
What are you using for a shifter? Are you running a console?
Fully automatic or manual/auto?
Really want to keep the factory auto console and shifter in our 69.

The neat thing about the GV, is you can use it as a splitter. You can make your 727combo into 6 useable gears. GV in red;
2.45-1.91-1.45-1.13-1.00-.78od, with split percents of
.78-.76-.78-.88-.78.
If you gear your car to trap in 2nd/over and skip direct completely, then the 2od-3od split is .78/1.13=.69
Examples;
without the splitter;
say you now trap at 118,in direct with 4.30s at 6400,having used 3 very wide ratios, and two tugs on the stick. Your starter gear is 2.45 x 4.3=10.54, and 65 will be about 3354/zero slip
With the splitter;
you can use 3.91s, and trap in 2od at about 6600, but having used 4 very tight ratios,and only pulled the stick one time.The starter gear might be a little steep at 3.91 x 2.45= 9.58,And 65mph will be about 2479rpm, with zero slip.
The average horsepower for the GV run will be up much closer to your peak horsepower, and your shift rpm can be lower too.

For guys that can use the A999, the ratios are
2.74-2.14-1.54-1.20-1.00-.78od and the splits;
.78-.72-.78-.83-.78
This tranny is a gem
Again trapping at 118 in 2od, this time with 3.73s, the Rs will be about 6660.The starter gear is 3.73 x 2.74 =10.22,and cruising at 65 will be about 2269 with Zero slip.

That's the math of it. I used 5% TC slip at shift-rpm
IDK if GV has a 904 adapter.

Good luck on being able to shift a gear vendors to split gears with any efficiency. I drove Mr Angry's Black '68 Charger with a 727 and a gear vendors. The thing was ok to shift into overdrive once in 3rd, but my hat is off to anyone who could effectively split 1, 2 & 3 on a drag strip or even in a street race. There's no way the average guy could master that to make it worth doing in a race. There may be guys out there, but it is very distracting with a throttle wide open.

I am not using the stock console, but Treblig has modified his stock console and shifter on his 200R4 conversion.
