This has probably been addressed, although I couldn't find the link. I'm looking for a Dana for a '67 & up A-body. I have maybe three to choose from. One is in a '00 3500 van. It's a 3.73 open. The other two are from the 1980s pickups. No idea on the ratio. Are all of the gear sets the same? Same bearings, etc? Thanks for any help.

The 2000 will not be a good choice because of the 3 1/2" tubes and 30 extra pounds of webbing, but you should get the internals if cheap enough. The 80's rears are best and will accept the 2000 guts. The holy grail is to find a 80's truck with a power-lock and 4.10 gears.

How can you tell it's a Power Lock? Why are the '00 internals better?

The 2000 is not better, just the 3.73's would be good to save. A power-lock has 2 side gears and 4 spider gears.
