Anybody do this ? My wire guy said it would be allot better and get rid of the regulator, ballest resistor.
Also make the On/Off kill switch in the rear work correctly.

Anybody ?

Thanks,Tim

Mikel,
Do you eliminate the Voltage regulator and resistor with that set up?

Yes. I'm pretty sure there's a voltage regulator built into it, that may be what the little box on top of it is.

The one I've got puts out 85 amps and is the same size as a stock unit.

Tim (also on long island)

Cool. ;-)

If it is internally regulated you can launch the regulator. Unless it is a 9 Volt alternator, I wouldn't launch the ballast resistor.

The alternator and regulator are part of the charging system. The ballast resistor is part of the ignition system.

BTW, I've got 4 gauge wire (with gold-plated terminals) running from the terminal on the alternator to the non-battery side of the master power switch on the back of the car. Never had an issue with it not shutting off or anything like that.

$100 80 amps 1-wire
