WIW 62 Lancer

-
You don’t want it I do have a 62 wagon need all kinds of parts

The kid says it looks too much like Lary, meet Lary, and says I need to finish him first.
I say, exactly, it's a mini-Lary, really, no lie.
Even bought Lary from the same guy.

I'm giving myself to this weekend to decide.

I realize there are many factors to consider, many unknowns, and pics alone are not sufficient, but I thought in WIW threads people posted stuff like, I don't know, what they think it's worth.

I value your input.
Any care to throw out a number, or a not more than number?

State of confusion, lol.
Not sure what you're waiting for. It hasn't even been a week since I looked at it, spoke to the owner since then, I gave myself until the weekend to decide what to do and he agreed.

Just trying to get a ball park figure on what's too much from someone who is familiar with these cars.

To date I've learned it's worth scrap price or nothing, and the engine is worth big bucks or no bucks.

I was thinking it was worth something a little more than zero before I even knew anything about it or the engine, and he won't take scrap value because he knows it's worth something to someone, himself included.

Just don’t want you to forget me no hurry

Value will be different to different people in different places. Here in SE Arizona scrap price on car is $250, the self serve junk yards are paying $500. In Los Angeles, they will give you $1500 for a car driven in to the self serve junk yards via their smog clunker program. So if it were here, in the same condition as your pics I'd pat between $500-700. In L.A. I'd likely pay $1200-1500. People say the engine is worth big bucks if good, but thats a BIG IF. If you search the parts wanted section you'll see an ad from someone who purchased an aluminum block for $200 very recently, hardly big bucks. They told me they had their choice of several at that price. Though I've seen someone else asking $2000 for one. Owner wanting maximum dollar is understandable but not realistic since you are taking all the risk. I evaluate the price of a field car on a "I can't lose money" scale. In the worst case can I sell a few parts and scrap the rest to recover what I spent (not make a profit even). You could do what I've seen others do since it's not going anywhere soon and that is to advertise it online/magazine/wherever as yours using the pics you've already taken at the price of your choice to test the interest level in the marketplace. Lots of interest price goes up, no interest price goes down. Lately I've been walking away from most field cars I find because the owners belief that it's worth more than scrap has come to mean it's worth 10-20 times more than scrap or half of what they saw a restored one sell for at Barret Jackson. I'll attach a pic of my latest rescue. It was on Offerup.com for a year at $3500 with original wheels and new 13" tires and I got one call and they offered me half my asking price, and I drive it every day. It is well worn, has a bit of rust like they all do, but everything works and it cruises down the highway at 80 all day long. That's got to say something about the market value for these early "A"s. In the end there is no right or wrong price if you're content paying it.

I'm thinkin 1500-2000 max. It needs a LOT of work. I only say that much because of the aluminum slant......and that's ASSUMING it's buildable.

Yo will put more $$$ in it for parts and materials and IF YOU do all the labor, you will have more in it than you will likely ever sell it for IF get it for free, so buy it because you want it to love! Rare unusual cars but that does not equal value or selling price.

We’re u at I will take it it is running so I can get it home

It is the one on the trailer right need trailered home that ok also

Can talk price still don’t know what state u are in

@valiantpatrol thank you, that helps.
I'm not looking to part it out, but it does help to understand the value of the engine. I knew it was aluminum, he explained it all, but some feedback here seemed to indicate it was a bigger deal.

He has a Valiant as well, a friend almost bought it. I personally do not like the grill as much.

@RustyRatRod thank you, a max number helps, coming from someone building one of these early cars.

@barbee6043 exactly, I would buy it because I can't get it out of my brain.

@Morepower with all due respect, this isn't a for sale thread, I'm trying to learn about a car I potentially would like to purchase, drag home, clean up, evaluate, and determine my level of commitment - or leave it and move on.

Sorry won’t ask yes I know not a for sale Thread have over 12,000 in my wagon most in paint

Just to put a period on this, and let you know how disappointed I am, I decided to get it.
Finally got my winch together and the parts to put it on my trailer.

This car does not have ppwk, I knew this and would get a bill of sale which I was ok with, there is no fender tag, ok not a big deal.

What killed it for me is it does not have a vin tag.

I know I will open a can of worms, but get vin tag for correct year off junker. Then getting a title varies by stae as to BS and trouble. Note: this may not be legal!
Do people ever wonder how many street rods and pieced together from how many different vehicles??

That is a true statement and how many people ever know none accept the guy to put it together

Can I have Lary?
No.
I just finished ripping out what was left of the floor and welding in a rust free torsion bar crossmember. First time welding too.
I even sectioned a piece of the frame from a donor car, not too shabby a job. I drilled holes in both parts, slid 4 pieces of metal inside the rail, plug welded and welded the seam.

I have other areas to address, but the firewall has got me wondering, can you replace a firewall?

It's in bad shape where it meets the floor. I think someone on fbbo is going to cut that part out, but after fixing spots in the cowl, I have to wonder.

Just set in, but it's progress.

Sure you can replace a firewall. No reason on earth why you can't.

I'm beginning to think it would be easier drilling out spotwelds than to patch this and that, and this, and over here, and there, etc.
