I just tried to change my oil and didn't get too far. I couldn't get the plug to unscrew or the oil filter to come off. Are there any tricks involved? I was using a wrench and a little degreaser but it didn't budge at all

dont take offense, but are you turning them the right way? if so, put some muscle into it lol

Yeah I tried clockwise and counter-clock wise. Non taken btw. Does the oil filter screw off?

yes. same direction.

Sometimes the gasket gets stuck.

When you do get the filter off make sure the gasket comes with it or you'll have a nice leak at the filter.

No tricks involved. Counter clock wise to get off. Sounds like someone over tightened both the filter and the drain plug. When you put it back on, tighten firmly but don't put a lot of muscle when tightening either one. Run it for a while to check for leaks.

Counter clockwise removes them both. Make sure you have a good quality six point wrench or socket on the oil plug. Get a filter wrench for the filter as suggested.

Okay I finally got the plug out but couldn't unscrew the filter (getting the wrench soon) so I changed the oil without a new filter on but realized that the old oil was actually still kinda good and the filter looks newish since I whipped all the grease off it. So I'm wondering if the oil dash light is just electrical problem??

Pound a big screwdriver all the way through filter and unscrew it.
Works every time.:D but a bit messier.

I wouldn't bet my engine on the light being bad by being stuck on. Possible, but.... do you want to risk it? I'd use a mechanical gauge to be sure.

it doesnt matter how "new" a filter looks. i have pulled filters off of motors that havent had an oil change in 20,000 miles that looked new. change your filter.

If all the wiring is correctly connected the cluster and theoil pressure transmitter, I'd do a pressure test, then replace the tramnsmitter.

I would not stick the screwdriver through the filter. It will make a mess for one. Plus, I have tried it several times only to be stuck with a filter still stuck on and just torn slam the hell up. Not to mention the screwdriver can damage the oil filter tube on the engine. And all of this is on the side of the engine that's not real easy to get to. I would wait and get a filter wrench.
