Got a friend interested in purchasing a 1972 Demon Sizzler and I/we have a few questions.

What makes a Sizzler a Sizzler?

Is it purely a cosmetic package (hood graphic and body colored grille)?

Is the 340 the only engine offered on a Sizzler?

Any fender tag code that designates the Sizzler package?

Does it include bucket seats/console only?

Please enlighten me/us!

Thanks all!!

as far as i know the sizzler was the cousin to the duster twister ......so it had stripes...bucket seats and optional console ....lots of cool stuff like rally wheels .....but typically had a slant six or 318 .....it was a jazzy car for the gas crunch ....looked performance on the outside but was a mild gas miser.

they had a distinct color keyed grille along with the very nice hood decal treatment

RaniDart70 pretty much nailed it. As far as the seats and console,I would say it came with a bench seat and no console

Thanks for the information! No fender tag code to denote the Sizzler package?

Yep.. to all that was mentioned.
I did extensive research on the one I had and sold on this site.
There isnt too much info on the packages, but I sure talked to the right people on them (like the guy from Chrysler that sold them back in '71-'72.)

There are not too many of them left rolling around as "Sizzler" packages.

If you have more in depth questions shoot me a p.m. and I will see what I can do to answer them.

...and that beautiful (and very funtional) scoop.

I am pretty sure that the Sizzler didnt include any hood scoops as that would defeat the purpose of why they created the trim package. Just going from what I gathered. I could be wrong, but nothing I saw ever indicated hood scoops unless that was special ordered on it.

I very well could be wrong though as the info on these cars is few and far in between. I just have had conversation with the guy that ordered and sold these back in the day.

The whole idea was concieved at Chrysler Corp. to create a package that would look similar to the HP340 cars, yet be more affordable and believe it or not to lower insurance rate on the vehicle. Basically a look sporty yet be economical.
Well from what I was told the idea flopped as the insurance companies didnt buy into that idea and still charged full bore as if they were a "performance" car.
So the package was elimnated and the focus went back to the "performance" versions. He said that most people that bought the Sizzler (especially the EV2 V8 models) simply changed them over to 340 clone cars and thats what most of them became.

I have no basis on this other then what this guy told me, but it sounds like a likely story and could be legit.

I've seen a few with this scoop (my favorite of all time).

It works very well with the hood stripe.

In fact, I've seen more with the scoop than without.

I imagine all tha tI've seen could have been added by the owners.

The snorkel scoop was available on sizzler cars in 1972.

The car shown I dont know if it is a true Sizzler as I was led to believe that all the grill surrounds are painted the body color. I have seen the sizzler hood stripe kit used on other cars.

I was also told the bench seat was the standard in these cars and Buckets were not a option. The Sizzler I had was top of the line Sizzler and the only option was told that was avail was a bench seat. ??????

Ive never seen a 72 Sizzler. Did they have colored grills also ?

I am not 100 % sure on the grill surrounds... here is one of the old articles I found..... seems silver was a standard.....

DETROIT -- Dodge's little Demon, the popular 108-inch-wheelbase addition to the compact line for 1971, now offers a Demon "Sizzler" for sporty car enthusiasts more interested in "show" than "go."
The "Sizzler option package has 13 items, five of which are offered at "no charge" including rallye wheels, color-keyed grille collar, body side tape stripes and stylish, black hood treatment.

Grille collars to match body colors are available in special sporty colors -- Citron Yella, Plum Crazy, and Hemi Orange. The standard collar is silver.

Other bright body colors are Green Go, Butterscotch, and Top Banana. There are 12 standard body colors from which to choose.

Package items include dual, color-keyed outside racing mirrors (left remote); "Tuff", racing-type steering wheel; carpeting; combination plaid cloth and vinyl bench seats; rear deck panel stripe; bright drip rail and wheel lip mouldings; and 6.95 x 14 white side-wall tires.

Bucket seats and D78 x 14 or E70 x 14 tires with raised white lettering are optional. The standard Slant Six engine is 198 cubic inches. A 225-cubic-inch Six is optional. Standard V-8 is 318 cubic inches.

I can break down the rest of the fender tag for you but it's soon my bedtime as work come around fast enough. By the time I get back on someone will probably have it all decoded for you.

my computer doesn't like pdf's but i could break it down in a min or two with a normal pic of it.

Looks to me like those grill surrounds were available in the same colors that the B and E body elastomeric bumpers were available in.

If the car was built/ordered in a color besides those, then it got standard bumpers (or surrounds).

I'm trying to remember if I've ever even seen a Sizzler with color keyed grills.
I don't think I have. Sizzlers are definitely not very common around here, but sometimes one turns up at Don Garlits.
