I must say, for me, It's fun to hear people's reactions or comments about my Dart. It's like for the most part, if you're not driving a muscle car that everyone knows...Camaro, Mustang, Chevelle....Most people have no clue.

Not long ago, I was at the gas station with my Dart. This nice little old man comes up and asks me "Is that the car from the Dukes of Hazzard?". I chuckled and kindly replied "No sir, It's a '67 Dart". He looked back at me with glazed over eyes, and said "Oh". LOL. And a few weeks ago while I was out in the garage pulling the engine out of it, an F350 towing a trailer of lawn equipment stops in front of my house. Guy gets out and walks up my driveway, asks if I need any services. Which I did not. He stands there for a few seconds, eyeing my car, then says "That's a real nice Nova you've got there son". I just smiled and said "Thank you, sir". Ha! I must say, when I was younger that kind of thing bothered the crap out of me, now I actually enjoy it!

Anyone have any similar stories or instances? I'd love to hear them!

I don't get that stuff too much. I think everyone either had a Duster or knew someone who had a Duster some time in their life... But occasionally I get it from the younger crowd.. But what I get more of than anything is " Boy so-n-so had a Duster like that when I was younger and it would outrun my _______ (insert whatever here).." Like my neighbor who had the Super Duty TA that regularly got whipped by a stock 340 until he put some 4.11 gears in it then he could kinda hang with him.. Or one of the local engine builders who said he had a Chevy II that had all kinds of add ons and was SOOO mad when his buddy's bone stock 340 beat him real bad.. Then about two weeks ago while I was filling up I had a truck driver come over and say the first pair of boobs he ever put his hands on was in a Duster.LOL. That was a first..

I have a 73 Swinger with no brandings on it at all, and someone asked if it was a Buick.
I have had lots of "What is that?" but mostly old people with a thumbs up out thier windows, or kids yelling "Nice car" when I go by.

Most everyone that views my Signet instantly falls in love and gives me that thumbs up. The only thing that bothers me is when persons try and talk with me and after a few seconds tell me that they will give me a great price for it, mostly around nine grand and I'll say, you'll pay triple that for a 64 chevy or mustang and have many to choose from. I was at a show last year and saw a rat rod for sale , guy wanted 23 g's and offered me 9 g's for the Signet. My exact words were, you build a car over the winter from garbage, crap and spare parts and ask 23 and I have 30 years into this and you offer me 9000 for something you've never seen before now get out of my face before I lose it. It's not that I'm not a people person, I'm just not a stupid people person and I've spoken with those who have Dodges who ask me what kind of car is this..

I was at the gas station a few weeks back. I was checking the oil on my 413, He looks at the motor and says nice 454. I looked at him and said, What do the valve covers say? He responds Mopar Performance and then looks at me and says this is a mopar? I said to him, Not everyone drives a chebby.

My 73' "Demonized" Dart Sport is painted Hemi orange and stands out so gets quite a bit attention. Had some rude "Chevy" guy at a car show walk by and say "yer cars ugly" to which I quickly responded "so are you but I could change the paint" ....stupid sour faced look and lurked away. I did find him later while eating lunch and kind of apologized for being harsh and we both got a laugh about it.

Great stories, guys... Keep them coming, Please!

What's up with the Nova comments? In what universe do they resemble each other at all? lol.

I think we all love the thumbs up, or the head snap when we're cruising down the streets in our Mopars! As for rude, or obnoxious comments, I personally don't take kindly to them. I've mellowed out quite a bit the last 10 years or so, and also have more to lose if I react without thinking these days. Most of the time I'll laugh it off with a smile and an eye roll....But don't catch me on the wrong day lol.

i have a set list of silly comments about my old cars.

1-people look at my 68 4door satellite and ask if its a roadrunner.

2-people who ask what engine is in my satellite have never heard of a 273

3-i opened the hood of the satellite and one guy insisted it was a big block and
he would not be wrong about it.
4-most people have never seen or heard of a 69 barracuda.

5-people suggest i put a small block chevy in my cuda (i have to resist myself
from slapping them in the mouth).
6-i went to a junkyard a month or two ago to see if they had any A bodies.
they did a 76 valiant and i said "im looking for parts for my 69 barracuda". and
the dude at the front desk did not know what an A body barracuda was.
once he heard barracuda he was insistent that all of them were big body cars
and parts from a valiant would not work. i stood there for five minutes trying
to tell him the parts will work but he would give me price on anything. so i
simply told him "you sir are an idiot for turning away business". turned around
and left.

I think some people, for whatever reason, get too wrapped up in the pony car wars. Me? I like everything...Have owned and hot rodded Mopar, Ford, and GM's. They've all produced some really nice cars over the years, imo.

Your car is sick, by the way!

This is the kind of stuff that bothers me and it gives us Mopar guys a bad name because of the elitist attitude toward everything non Mopar. You had a friendly guy come up to you and compliment your engine. He was obviously mistaken with what he saw. Instead of just telling him it's a 413 and maybe telling him a little something about the engine, you just say "What do the valve covers say?". I mean what good comes out of trying to make the guy feel like an idiot? Not everyone out there is a car guy. Maybe he grew up in a Chevy family and hasn't had a classic in decades? He saw something he thought looked cool, complimented you on it and then you tried to make him feel stupid for not knowing exactly what it was.

People say "Nice Nova" when I'm filling up my Duster at the gas station all the time. If I'm not in the mood to talk I just tell them thanks. If I feel like chatting I'll tell them it's a Duster and whats under the hood and all that. I don't try and make them feel stupid for not knowing what it. There's plenty of **** they know about that I don't have a clue about either.

I also get a lot of the thumbs up or nice car. Sitting a stop lights always gets some way off comment... got a 450 in it?? is it fast? or I use to have a Chevy also?? My wife always says not much chance getting a girl with it, but the guys.....I do remind her that one girl did give me a thumbs up! My best was a little old man about 70 years old that knew exactly what it was. Said he had one in his younger days, asked to see the motor and if he could sit in it, let him fire it up and with a big smile he told me how he use to tear up the strip with his.

Happens all too much. When I had my limelight 70 RR I got a lot of is this a Dukes car? The best was sitting at a park a guy say my car and said he had a 70 RR. I said that was cool. Then the stupidity started when he asked what year mine was. I said um a 70. He said are you sure? Yes I'm sure. Maybe you had a 71 I said. Then he went into a big ordeal about me being wrong. I told he to screw and get a life.

Yeah, I bet you do....That's a beautiful car you have! I'd love to see more pics of it!

Great story! Those are the best kind....You made his day!

LOL. And then, there are the crazies lol. I just smile and nod...

i give a small head shake no over and over to all the people who call my 69 valiant a nova untell they see the plymouth on the front. at that point most say somthing like "ohh its a dart. dose it have a slant six?" and i say " ya it has a 170 slant six, but its a valiant". then i give them the history of my car and the valiant and dart.

I realize a lot of us have a thing about brand recognition. Shouldn't the fact that people say "Nice _____" be enough. Is it that important for Q public to know exactly what we're driving.

How about this. You pull up to a set of lights beside a Yaris, the older lady driving looks at you &..... attempts to rip you a new one for driving a "gas guzzling, noisy, air polluting dinosaur"

The moral of the story, Apreciate any compliment you get"

I apologize if you've taken the tone of this post, wrong. The intent wasn't to not be gracious to observers. It was for anyone to share their stories about comments they've received for, or about their rides. Regardless, you have a great attitude, which is most welcomed!

And an FYI, I've received that particular comment and treated it the same as I've treated most off handed comments....With a smile and a nod ;)

I've actually had a gentleman come up, and ask why I was driving my car. "Too nice to be out and about". I told him, naw it's a daily driver. Then, he started rattling off that any Mopar with a 8 1/4 RR 318 A/C delete, (being at a gas station I was checking oil so hood was up) ain't no daily driver. Needless to say I was impressed.

I had him take a walk around the car, as I told him it's all original 40 years old 86,000 miles, and then he did notice the 1/4 panels are typical rusted and the little dents and scratches.

He then completes the conversation with "Dang, I'd love to have me one of these"

i ask them where there electricity comes from for there precious "green" car?
I then tell the trendy little worker bees that over 50% of the US electricity comes from burning fossil fuels like coal. and then when there fancy electric tuna cans are done toting there dumb asses to and from whole foods the batteries are going to be more harmful to the environment then my gas guzzling all steel car that will be melted down into the bed pan that sits under there old decrepit asses 20 yrs down the road.

I don't mind educating people. Not everyone knows cars. A polite thanks always work. I just hate when someone trys to tell you about your car when they don't know what they're talking about.

Yes Hybrids are worst because of the batteries. As a mechanic I see people not fixing their new cars. They ignore the check engine lights all the time. People with older cars tend to maintain their cars far more.

I love the puzzled look on peoples faces when they first see my 67/68 valiant. But my favorite was at the first car show I took it to after getting it done, was a hot little blonde in her twenties turns to her boyfriend and say "This is nice. I love this car."

Yea, I'm waiting for the tree hugger chick to ***** me out about mine.
Hasn't happened yet but I'm expecting it.

I was at a car show one day recently (not in the show) and the announcer say's "The owner of the red and white Dodge Dart, your parking lights are on" so I say thank you and start towards the car out in the parking lot.
This guy shuffles up beside me and says "You have a Dodge Dart?"
I said yea, a 73 Swinger.
He asks "What motor you got in it?" and I said a 318.
The guy scrunches his nose all up and turns and walks off. :D

One thing I noticed was that there was not ONE Dodge, Plymouth or Chrysler in the whole 80 or so cars.
