Local craigslist deal that I committed to buying. I'm nervous dropping the cash, as I haven't even seen this thing in person. My dad went down and checked it out today for me and said it's solid. $2850, for one of the couple hundred 67 Dart GTS models ever made. Originally a 383 motor car with a 4 speed manual transmission in it.

Right now it has neither engine nor trans, lacking interior and needs a few things done to it (fender well issue, but doesn't sound too daunting). Dad said body is completely straight, all glass there, solid floor with some light surface rust.

Did I make a smart move?

No, It'd look better in my garage

All kiddin aside I think ya did good on it! Once you get it home run it by Frank with the GTS Registry.

'67s are the hardest to get. A little over 500 were made.

i would personally say YES....good move....the price is a little high for no engine .....but considering its a rare car and its still 67+ then YES ...if i had the money and that chance ...i would have done it.

make sure and check the vin

i think it should start with LS23H7 to be a real GTS with a 383

I think you did good, wonder what the holes in the rear quarters are for? Dual whip CB antennas???

I'm thinking you did good.

I looked at a plain jane 67 Dart here and the guy wanted 2700 for it. No engine/trans no interior. The car itself was in awesome condition though.

I would have done it if I hadn't had to many irons in the fire at the time.

You'd be absolutely correct. I was wondering the same thing and that's what my dad said. I hope it isn't too much trouble plugging them.

Seems good to me. It is a rare one.

I think you did just fine. I think there was like 228 4 sd. 67 383. A guy i know paid a lot more for a very rough one.

Reasonably rust free in Portland is tough to come by. I bought my GTS for $1700 in 1997 as a runner but it had a 318 in it.

I feel you did good. So whats your with the car?

Looks like a solid car. The trunklid finish panel is a hard part to find and yours looks pretty good.
I wouldn't worry much about it having no drivetrain. That is the easy part. 383s are easy to find, same with the A body 4 speed. The exhaust manifolds are the hard part though. I have seen some sets at swap meets for almost $1000 ! That hood puzzles me though...Did the 67s come with the hood bulges and callouts?
I have a 67 GT that was originally a 273 model. Mine was a no motor/trans deal as well. I paid $750 in 2005.

In my research on the one I was working on. 1967 GTS Darts did not come with a bulge hood.

Sweet! Find a '66 date code 383 and do the drivetrain looks back in as per Detroit called it. That thing is as easy to come by as a Charger Daytona. You shouldn't even be able to look at it, according to average odds. Less so, even, than a Daytona, because I would imagine even fewer survived the crusher.

I'd restore that car and play with a cam and gears, if I had it. I love the 383.

I saw that car on CL too... Got my attention w/ the 383 4 sp combo. I hope you can get her back together with no surprises. I see there is a 3 rd member laying under the back of the car, is it a spare or?

I seen that car earlier this week. I think it was a good deal. In fact if it was closer I may have bought it myself. 67 I don't think had vin.'s stamped on the motor or trans. Find a date coded correct motor and trans and your golden. I would restore it back original myself. Nice score especially if it's solid and doesn't need any panel replacement.

Thanks for all the replies guy, I was definitely shooting in the dark with this one. After going out and doing some stuff tonight and thinking about it, I feel confident with the whole thing now. Especially coming back on here and reading the replies.

As far as what dano was asking with the old car, that turned into a headache for me. My dad bought a '67 Dart for me when I was in high school. It's been in his shop buried for the last twelve years. When I finally got around to getting it brought up here to my house, I found out it was a 2 door post car. The entire time, I thought it was a hardtop and it kind of completely killed all the motivation I had at the time for building up my engine and car.

In the meantime, I gave my dad $500 for his '64 Polara and then almost bought a '67 Barracuda fastback for an alternate car. I saw this just by chance and it caught my attention rather hard and quickly. I think, from what my dad was telling me, it'll be a good base line for my absolute lack of knowledge and skill in restoring a car, to tackle as a project.

Thanks again for all the replies, I think this thing would look absolutely wicked in gloss black with that chrome trunk lid nice and shiny. Maybe some white tail stripes.

Think it would be sacrilegious to drop a 360 in it until I get around to building a 383?

ETA:

I forgot to mention the car has disc brakes and a 8 3/4 rear end in it, too. The third member that was asked about in that picture was apparently just installed, from talking with the current owner.

I wouldn't twist the original paint scheme up on that car or put anything, other than a 67 383 in it. Any 66 date code 383 will be good to go.

Black is nice, but if you don't paint cars, it's not easy. That car is extremely rare and it would be mistaken for a '68 or '69 with a bumblebee stripe.

The car also has the GT trim, which I don't think would carry well with the stripe. If I'm not mistaken, a Scat Pack stripe car never got any kind of trim, going front to back on the car.

Any other dart, per se. slant six, 318 or anything else with a clutch in it would be fun with a 360 and some custom work, but I personally wouldn't do that to a 1/500 car. Especially not one that still had it's trim and everything that made it rare.

Nice score! As for doing a 360,if you have a running one, would work. I would take the time to do the 383. Saves money and time,in the long run. One engine swap, cheaper than two.
