1970 Duster project in Sweden

I keep seeing this mod--pretty sure when I get my toy back here, I'll bring the donor car's column with it. I also kinda want to shorten it and install an aftermarket u joint shaft.

Got my Dual Snorkel Scoop today :) I'm still contemplating if I shall go black or Green as the car.

I spent 4 hours polishing the wheel to the right today. It's coming out really nice. First I removed the clear coat, then wet sand, then polish with autosol. Is there a better product or way to do this. It was a PITA!

black, scoop and hood def in black. Maybe do the hood and scoop in body colory, then you can just plasticoat in black..
 
Does indeed look good.

Tough call on the color though. If anything else on the car is blacked out, I'd say go black otherwise go body color...just my 2 cents.

The wheels just take time and elbow grease. I don't know that any one polishing compound stands out above all the ones available, but I used to be partial to wenol for the initial polishing and nevrdull for periodic cleaning. They all use chemicals to strip the oxides off and bring out the metal luster, but environmental factors and if there's a coating on the bare metal will determine how long they stay nice.
 
I want one of those "double demon" scoops for ny sons 69 cuda notch. Same hood is used on a 73 dart sport so it will work.
 
I made this in photoshop. I might make a sticker of it and place on the sides of the scoop just for fun :)

Well, my spot repairs of rust turned out to be a big project that eats up a lot of time. It takes me ages because I have little experience. But I have patience so it's all good. Im getting close to do paint and have been at a shop to have them mix and match the old paint. I'm not sure that we will be able to get a closer match. This is two coats of top coat and 2 passes of clear. I painted a hard line on purpose so I could take pictures of it in daylight to bring to the shop for reference. The shop tells me it's impossible to match my sun faded paint. What say you?

Since I dont fully understand the world of paint and color I was under the Illusion that It would not be too hard to match it. The old paint looks lighter and more yellow to me, probably because it's sun faded. What I cant wrap my head around is, why is it so hard to make the new paint lighter and more yellow? Anyway, If it is impossible then I will do the best I can to work with this one. I'm gonna need to practise blending a lot. I was looking for information on that on this very forum. Do you guys have any links that I could read up on before I begin?

Metalflake or metallic colors are harder to match. The reason being is the base color is somewhat transparent, with the metal flakes in it. Using a darker primer will make the color darker, lighter color primer makes the color appear brighter. Also the wetter you apply the color the darker it will appear because the metal flake will settle into the color pigment, you can also end up with mottling in the paint if metallic is sprayed too wet. If you spray the color on with lighter more dry coats the brighter it will appear because the paint tends to dry before the metal flake can settle into the pigment. For a novice setting up a paint gun and getting it to match is going to be tough.plus trying to shoot metallic colors in single stage paint is an exercise in futility.

Most body shops having to match metallic colors will go with basecoat/clearcoat finishes. They will fade the basecoat into adjacent panels to blend it in, then clearcoat the repair and adjacent panels for the shine.

Example. Repainting a whole door, they would scuff with fine scotchbrite both the fender and rear quarter panel to get the paint to adhere. They then fade the new paint basecoat onto the fender and rear quarter panel about halfway to blend the color in to trick the eyes making it match. Then they would clearcoat all 3 panels.
 
Your very welcome, also shooting basecoat, it goes on dull and doesnt look like it will match your existing color until you spray the clearcoat over it. Clearcoat will darken the basecoat slightly as well as put the shine on. If you can gun spray primer, you can gun spray basecoat. It goes on dry, it has no shine to it.
 
I finally found a 360 over here in Sweden. I'm picking it up this weekend. It ran great before it was taken out and put out sale. Everything is there except the carburetor. Came out of a Challenger. The heads are the 3769974 casting and it has a LD340 intake and hydralic cam of some sort.

I will take it apart during the winter. With this build I want to do a reliable, spirited, street engine, focusing on torque. I already have a 8 3/4 rear end with 3.73 gearing and a 10" 3000 stall converter. A good start! I have a solid cam in the 273, so I have a complete valvetrain with adjustable rockers and Beehive springs, should I choose to go down that road. In the 273 I have the Magnum 270S grind. I could use all of that on the 360, but I think the XE268H would be a better choice maybe. I guess compression on the 360 will be on the low side. I think I might start a build thread too.
 
Nice find. Believe it or not LA360s are hard to find here in West Texas. That is unless you want to spend a day or 2 in the junkyard to disassemble the whole front of a Ram 350 series passenger van to get one. Out here they use those as church buses.

It's funny you should say that, because the Challenger this 360 came out of was imported from..... Texas :)
 
If it was a bright yellow 1970 with black interior and aluminum slots i probably know the car.
Seriously? If I understood correctly this car first went to Austria before getting sold to the older gentleman (in Sweden) I'm buying the engine from. I will ask him about the Challenger, I think he said it had a roll cage and stuff.
 
Yesterday me and a friend picked up this 360. It was a long road trip, but worth it. The seller had a really awesome place and was a very, very nice older man. On his property he had an old factory building that he had turned into a shop, a car museum and a Elvis bar. The place was truly awesome. The 360 looks very nice and clean, that's a nice bonus.
