Big K

That is great!

I grew up with K Mart. Mom took us there for school clothes, pool equipment, lawn furniture, BBQ supplies....I wore TRAXX shoes for years! I also wore those high on the calf socks with stripes.

My older brother on the left, me on the right. 1984, I was 19 and still wearing K-Mart shoes!

I remember wearing those stripey socks, but not a mini-skirt... :poke:

Yeah, the shorts were shorter then. I still prefer to wear shorts above the knee but since puberty, I'd been advised by local law enforcement that it is a crime to do so.
(Kidding. It is okay in some states)

I worked at K-Mart as a cashier in high school. I was too fast at what I did, So I always got the express line. Didn't know I was supposed to go slow. :realcrazy: It closed down at less fifteen years ago, if not more. I have some food memories of the place, and the one by my Grandma's house. They were a place I could go and get my toys or model kits and save enough money for glue or paint.

I've always worn over the calf tube socks. Nobody ever has them so I get them online.

Our local smart shut down a couple years ago it is now a rural king. I kinda like the rural king more! Lol

I bought plastic MPC and Monogram model kits from K mart for years!
I got my very first model car from Kmart when I was very young my grandmother bought it for me she used to take me a my brother to kmart and buy us toys and stuff she bought my first model car I still have it somewhere

I still have several...I must have bought 5 or 6 General Lee models. I used to make cardboard ramps on my bed and jump them. I started taping stacks of quarters on the trunk lid for balance.
I had a Rosco Police car. I had the Baja Beast, the "Quicksilver" 1960 Chevy panel van, 4 wheel drive trucks, a '78 Macho Power Wagon, 55 Chevy, all sorts of cool cars!

The KMart down the street from where we grew up also had a KMart grocery store off to the side in the same shopping center. It didn't last much past the mid 70s but I remember it. Mama went there a lot.

I remember buying a toy airplane back when it was still Big-K, it had pontoons on it for landing in water, I would wind it up and it would go across the pond, it was green and white, would be a antique now, I haven't ever ran across one, but if I did I'd buy it.

Almost makes me wish I were older to have seen all that. By the time i was old enough to realize how things had changed, it was already significantly different.

I do remember shopping at k mart as early as the early to mid 2000s.

Is this it?

Do you remember the K Mart Restaurants?
Yeah....MEAT LOAF and taters sitting under the lights! Carrot cake on the counter, the whiff of coffee brewing was heaven!

I bought my stompers from Kmart..... And some AMT model car kits... good memories as a kid. Just loved looking at it all in Ft. Collins, Colo. Hot Wheels, mattel games (football/basketball/etc), train sets, AFX racing sets, RC's....

We still have one K-mart about half hour away. Closest remaining Sears that I know is about an hour away.

I do remember a food place in there but this one only had a limited menu. Pizza, nachos, and pretzels

That's all any around here have had for many years. I know our Kmart had more years ago. I think it was Grants that had a full restaurant when I was a kid.
