Who worked for years with no warning for who knows what shop! They may not have known at the time how bad it was or could be! I can recall lots of dust from brakes and no warning about hitting the air gun on them and a little spray for cleaning. I would scarf down a couple Wendy’s triples while covered in the stuff including the burgers! At the time Just doing my job and fixing customers cars. I worked for a company owned GoodYear store at the time in the 80’s. Have you felt any symptoms and wondered?

I have had multiple asbestos exposures before I knew what the hell it might do to me. I’ve done several forensic engineering cases involving asbestos exposure of my clients and as their law suits were being lumped together, it will take several years or more for them to even be heard in court. This is a difficult subject to comprehend. I pray that you don’t have health impacts due to this material.

maybe, maybe not. Smoker for 40+ years as well. My bad but I quit, just watching another asbestos commercial and wonder! We will all die from something and may be as simple as the water we drink.

I smoked for 25 before I quit 20 years ago.

I’ve read professional articles that said all water (with the exception of that processed by reverse osmosis systems or distilled) contains asbestos. If that’s true, then every shower that you take also exposes you to friable asbestos fibers as they are aerosolized by the shower head. I personally felt immediate impacts in my lungs just from fiberglass particles in spaces insulated with unfaced fiberglass. Fiberglass may be the next “asbestos”.

I'm more worried about food and packaging materials from China, honestly. You can eat the bestos and be fine. It's inhalation that gets you.

I had two grandparents die from copd, so I figure that'll get me

Libby, Montana — The Asbestos Outbreak Libby is not far from me. I did a lot of hunting around that mine and had a couple girlfriend I chased around there. Been a body mechanic over 30 years. I worry. What a horrible way to die. My best friend has it and Lupas. He works for a rock crushing contractor.

We knew about the fiberglass before the asbestos. And then there is the silicosis from sandblasting they didn't warn us about until recently.

silicosis just has hit in the last few years. I have been on lots of construction sites were this is an issue. My company has tons of work requirements for this.

Yup. I've been using copper slag. Hope they don't invent a disease for that. LOL

Not looking for a law suit, but just wondering how many are concerned and feeling like this may be an issue for their long term health! I worked my life for gain and do not want to Blame others. It was always my choice.

Ya it's coal slag. Sorry about that. They call it black magic. good stuff. Really sharp. Not as cheap as silica sand but not horrible.

Well, it’s likely some type of slag, which is a by-product of ore mineral extraction. Lots of bad stuff is usually in it AFAIK.
Yes. some kind of slag.. I guess they use both. I'm pretty sure I've been using copper slag. I'm too comfy to get off my butt and go to the shop and find out for sure.

My current company does not do much cutting or such and mainly drilling in concrete. We must use hepa filter captured drills when doing anything more than 4 holes. That said the environment we work in has much more silicosis work and we have a stop work policy for such!

Capturing it. Otherwise everyone on the site would have to wear fresh air respirators. That is the real answer. They make capture devises for brake work too. We just hosed em down good with brake cleaner. Just killing nerves with chemicals instead of airborn lung disease. :)

That was the old days. We do it right today for all, not just our employees.

I have to think a hepa filter would plug up real fast with concrete dust. Must have some type of separator too huh?

Hilti and others make drills for just such. The filter is really not an issue! Times are changing and if on a site we’re others do not care we stop work!

When you see a contractor running a concrete saw on a site with no filter you walk! Only way to stop it!

They gotta have a water filter or approved method to control it!

My rock crushing friend says the rock dust may be why he has Lupus. He aint out for any law suits. Get busy living is his motto. I'm pretty sure his asbestos's came from working in Libby Montana area. They have free screening for us. I'm kind of afraid to do it. I have a chronic cough but don't have any problem breathing. Never smoked but gaged on a lot of second hand smoke. My folks smoked. Bars. Break rooms were horrible.

Bottom line is if I make it to 65 or what is now is 70 or later for retirement I will be amazed with all the obstacles put forth to get there! Enjoy life every day!
