Most are friendly. Just in the wrong place. When they show up near the house, or sometimes in the garage, I just take them for a walk down to the woods

2 Pygmy rattlers and a gopher tortoise.

This last weekend my wife and I went on 4 mile hike at the Lake Monroe Preserve. We started getting into some dense overhead which makes the ground cooler and damper. I spotted the 1st guy, got a picture and went around. Thought I was real slick with the keen eye and all, 100 feet further I stepped right over the 2nd one, didn't even see it, my wife who was ten feet back spotted it. Needless to say I quickly lost the cocky snake hunter attitude. Third picture lives is our back yard low country and comes up for grass, easily 12-14" long next to my wife's foot.

If they eat things that are nastier than they are, they're friendly.

Not me. if they eat anything besides bugs or rats , or are poisonous , it is buckshot time for them . probly have killed a few good ones too-----my bad.
had a 5ft water moccassin trying to get in my house last summer , my little rottweiler/blue healer had him cornered , he is in snake heaven -------

Looks like a black RAT snake in the pic , one of the few good ones . I saw one coming out of a brush pile I was burning , biggest wild snake 1`ve ever seen , over 9 ft long.
