Bad news, I pulled the engine apart to clean things up, here is what I found.

Is it cracked? Do you think you can salvage it? I ran into that with my 400 for my Duster. I'm headed out to look at a replacement 400 here in a few minutes.

Do you think you can return the junk motor?

Update! I had to drive to Oklahoma City yesterday, but I got a 360 long block. I actually scored a bunch of stuff, along with headers, manual steering box, and small block AC brackets. I still need a few items though, maybe you guys can help.

360 center sump oil pan
360 external balance balancer
360 external balance 904 trans flexplate
360 4 bbl intake, dual plane
cam and lifter set.

These are all I need to finish my 360 into Dart Project.

Update,
I got all the parts on the way now, i started cleaning and painting parts going on the engine this weekend, getting ready to assemble the 360 and get it all into the 75.

THis is what I have for the combo.

76 vintage truck 360 shortblock
76 heads
204 I /216 E duration cam, .444 lift
4bbl 70 340 intake
Carter 625 Carb
Hooker Headers
Pypes 2 1/2 Exhaust
904 trans (stock for now since I still have a 7 1/4 rear end in it)

Another update.

I have gone over the whole car with a fine tooth comb:

Floorboards, not a speck of rust, not a pinhole anywhere. (I love Texas!)

Body, no rust anywhere, no patches. Paint is new and very crappy. Its shiney, but it looks like whover prepped the car before it was painted used a grit of sandpaper that was way too rough, also the vinyl top was pulled off and the roof painted body color, but very little prep work was done to this area.

Trunk, the tire well had rusted out, someone welded in a round disk of sheetmetal.

Engine, slant 6 ring good, unfortunately the trans is shot, so its getting a 360 and a new 904

Rear, 7 1/4, gotta go soon after the V8 comes.

Interior is descent, the drivers seat bottom has come apart, but I picked up a pair of buckets last Sunday, so I am going to dye them blue to match. Carpet is still there, but its pretty shredded, new carpet coming soon.

:cheers:Hope the block works out for you.

As you can tell, I stopped on the way back down and got some more parts from someone else.

Getting closer to the swap, it will happen this weekend if my balancer arrives in time. I have the shortblock together, I rebuilt the heads this week and got them bolted on, I have to finish up a few odds and ends on the engine, and pull the slant 6 also.

If I was in Dallas I would come over to help.....or maybe watch!
I got sent to Greenwood, SC......this weather is wearing me out.
Good luck with the swap.

I'm getting closer, this weekend I finished upm the engine and trans, got the engine bay cleaned and painted, waitng on the balancer so I can drop the engine in.

I finally got the engine and trans dropped in yesterday. To be honest, it was a B***H! It seemed like everything wanted to fight me, it took me 4 hours to lower the engine in, bolt up the trans crossmember, and bolt up the mounts. I only got one header in, the pass side header has to be done with the right side raised and the drivers side bolted in. I also had to remove the factory shift linkage, because it would not clear the headers. I had an easier time bolting in the BB and 727 in my 68 Dart.

I was actually home for two weeks and stopped by....nobody home.
Now I am in Lawton, OK working......more hail.

I hope to get it running this weekend, I finally got the headers installed. WHoever desigend them needs to be water-boarded! Why would they design headers that makes it impossible to install two of the bolts in each side? I had to drive around and find/buy special bolts and tools, even had to cut a wrench in half so it was only 3" long so I can get a bolt in. WTF!

Thats not true at all. I had a 74 plymouth duster that had bbp drums on the front.

Here is the car I am talking about

how can that be? Every drum brake car ive ever seen has been sbp, including my 74 duster that has 10 inch drums sbp all the way around. I have only seen disc brake equipped cars with bbp?
