today shara got dirty cleaning the engine and engine compartment. since its her car im making her do most the work. i help out, but its only fair that she gets dirty on this build. we pulled the pan and discovered about an inch of syrup like consistancy oil in the bottom. that and the oil pickup was pretty plugged up. hopefully that is what was causing the oil pressure to rise and drop. it also needs a clutch, so its a good thing we are going through everything now.

That's a nifty little car. Straight axle and a blown 354 Hemi?

That's an MG engine and trans. Nice release bearing they have eh?

Cool car and it appears to be in pretty good shape. I'd love to have one.

If the 1500cc engine needs much internal work, switch to a 5-main 1800cc from a 1968 or later MGB. Most MG's had dual carbs and were in a bit higher state of tune. 100hp is easy enough, and the bottom end will support 200+ if you add a supercharger.

May be sacreligous; but a datsun B210 engine may bolt right up. They're almost indestructible......

wow. i would love to build something like that. but i think shara wants to do a stock build. if anyone has any tips on these things, let me know. any help is appreciated. and thanks for the nice comments. there are metropolitan forums, but they are not as active as this forum and i didnt think it would be a huge deal to post pictures of it on here. i like this car because you dont really see them that often. and that was what got me into my mopars in the first place.

hey guys. well i got some more parts torn off the met today. next step will be to clean and por-15 the bottom, oh and we need to make a couple patch pantels for the floor. nothing too major though. then i need to clean and paint the rear end and slap on some new leaf springs. i will also go through the brakes and replace the rubber hoses. once the rear is back together we will tear apart the front. oh the last two pics are just me messin around with a spare set of wheels i have. 245/60-14's almost fit haha.

That engine looks cool with just the scrub up!!! AWESOME JOB!!!

I had one of those Metros-same color even! Mine was a 61/2 with a trunk. Not a bad car but stay out of the fast lane LOL!! There is a good source of parts out in California, I think it was in HollyWood. Can get almost any part still for them. You will never get it to stop leaking oil, it is beyond British ability to seal an engine...

Neat little car..There is a guy close local to me that restores them for living..AutoWeld is not far from here either, had him do a chassis for a 50 Studebaker..he does some nice work.

well this is how I look at it Nash was part of or bought buy rambler?? and then I Think then it went to AMC AND then didn't Chrysler buy them SO I would guess that makes it like the second cousin to mopar????????LOL.. OO and I cant believe that you have a beautiful women like that blond hare blue eyes not complaining about her nails and dirty and still has a big smile on her face..YOU are a lucky man!!! keep her happy and have fun doing it.O and you better keep this one..:cheers: Artie

I totally dig those little things too. When I finish the dart I may look for a old mini or something similar for my wife... Sweet ride.

As I was scrolling down post #11 and saw the trans out I said to myself "heck all he needs to do now is take the rear out and he's got a clean pallet for an 8 3/4", 727 and a stroker" then I saw the rear out and then had to chuckle when I saw the big tire stuck in the wheel house. So the next update will read "scrapped the original drive train and ordered . . . "

Nice project - cool little cars.

Aaron,

Nice project you have going for Shara. Thats great you two are spending time together like that! Keep us posted.

I LOVE those things!!.....I knew they had some type of british history to them. They sort of have an "appliance" feel to them.....the dash etc. And boy, so simple! Try not to get noticed in one....

Yea...simple as hell...the wiring is the worst part of these cars...it's all British, which didn't last very well.

Mine has survived pretty well, only 79,000 miles...with rattle can spray paint job done in the past

And yea about the "not get noticed" thing...kinda like driving the Daytaona...try and hide with that car as well

hey guys, well we got some more done on the car today. nothing too fun, just scrubbing dirty parts. the transmission cleaned up real well. shara pulled the spring off the rearend and then degreased it. she also cleaned up and painted the driveshaft. we are going to order new springs for it next week. i also sprayed the whole under side with degreaser and then washed it off and it cleaned up real nice without even scrubbing. i was going to por-15 the bottom, but i think if i just scrub the undercoating it will be fine. i will just por-15 the exposed metal that has surface rust.
