    Help! Engine Vibration

Yea, Thanks for asking. I pulled and replaced the motor with the original 318 that came with the vehicle. I'm still waiting to tear down the bad motor to see if i can detect the problem. Thanks for all you help Steve

    Help! Engine Vibration

Don't worry it will get inspected. I'm just not going to throw anymore good money for bad. Another thing I noticed driving it today is the vibration is worse when at low throttle, or no throttle vs. during full or partially-full throttle, ie., heavy load. Don't know what that means????

    Help! Engine Vibration

Just a straight compression tester. I think this was like most of my projects where I try to save a buck. Spending more to make it work than going with quality new parts, ie., used block, heads, crank, rods. I have a spare 318. Think I'll start over, maybe with a stroker kit, and balance...

    Help! Engine Vibration

I ddi compression test all cylinders recently and found no problems there. All were reading from 110-140 psi compression.

    Help! Engine Vibration

Thanks again for all the great info. Grey, the heads and block were not surfaced, it has stock rocker arms and pushrods. The cam is new stock and with new lifters. Which reminded me of a problem I had, and haven't thought about. During my first highway test run after rebuild, with the motor...

    Help! Engine Vibration

The damper came off and went on snug. The first damper was brand new, and the second one is original. Again, the vibration is not present at all rpm's and it isn't unbearable but still noticable throughout the car frame. I'm just concerned about the integrity of the motor.

    Help! Engine Vibration

I replaced the damper with the original one taken off the motor before rebuild. I compared it to the other and is similar in size, shape and weight (only slight variations). When I started the motor it initially ran smooth but has since begun to wobble lile the other damper. The motor mounts...

    Help! Engine Vibration

The torque convertor is from the '71 a 904 torqueflight. It has no weights. Perhaps that is part of the problem. Is there any site available to match the production date to the crank casting number?? The stamped number is 9462387......Thanks again for everyones input.

    Help! Engine Vibration

If I remember correctly the damper was a snug fit. I still have the original damper which I'm going to reinstall tomorrow. I replaced it because the rubber material was cracked. The balancer is a replacement 318/340 made by Dorman. Reviewing the work done by the engine shop, the...

    Help! Engine Vibration

Yea, I know that that it was a dumb A$$ rookie mistake. The block is dated 1980. I do have the cast number of the crank but I couldn't tell you if it is internal or external balanced. The builder was me, my kid, and the help??? of my body guy, (a chevy man). So a lesson learned. Now, I'm...

    Help! Engine Vibration

Red, Yes the pistons were replaced as well as 2 of the rods. I don't know about the prevois balancing. I don't recall any balance plugs on the crank so I'm assuming it was stock. The motor was previously hooked up to a 74 duster with a manual 4 speed tranny. My demon has a 904 auto with the...

    Help! Engine Vibration

I recently finished rebuilding and installing a 318 block with 340 heads. It runs fine with the exception of a noticeable vibration. At idle I can observe some wobble in the vibration damper and more so at the lower pully. The vibration will increase or decrease at different RPM's. The...
