Look for our 5.7L HEMI Dart Soon

I will try to keep you updated. It looks like we are going to have to make our own engine mounts. Headers are in the works as described in Hot Rod, but they aren't readily available yet. Other than that, it comes down to finding an engine. Good luck, and check our website for updates. Ken

Look for our 5.7L HEMI Dart Soon

Thanks for the compliments. It is a lot of work, but fun work. The roll bar really tested my welding skills. After trying it, it's unbelievable to see the work professionals do on a full cage. It's very hard to try and maneuver your body and the torch around the tube to get a consistent...

    Modern vs. Old School

Well, I drive an SRT-4 as a daily driver, and I have my two 69 Chevy's for weekends, nice days, cruises, etc. I bought the SRT because it's a relatively cheap car that is fun to drive during the week. It's just as fast, if not faster, than my Corvette, but in a different way. Like the others...

    Subframe connectors

Dave, You're right about the thickness not contributing too much to stiffness, but it does help depending on what direction the tube is bending. Also, what I meant about the wall thickness of the tubing, is that it's a lot easier to make a good weld when the two pieces are the same thickness...

    Optimal Race Trasmission Setup

Thanks for the replies. Justin left out some of the details. We are using a 4.10 rear, engine should make max power at 6000RPM which is also the redline, we are projecting a race weight around 3300 lbs, and we are going to be running slicks. I guess we are trying to find out more of the...

    Subframe connectors

Dave, I tend to believe you that the .125 is too thick, especially when you look at it. However, the other piece of this puzzle is the roll bar/cage. Most racing classes required wall thicknesses for mild steel to be .120 depending on the diameter and weight of the vehicle. If you are going...

    Subframe connectors

Turbodart, Do you have any more pics or suggestions for the connectors on an A body? I just happened to have some 2x3x.125 tubing at home. (It was for the Camaro, but the Dart needs it more.) Did you make any templates for the installation? Thanks for any help. Ken

HEMI arrived in a big orange box.

We did some calling around today, and it seems like the TTI headers are not yet available. They are about 6 weeks away. That would us past our deadline for making the Hot Rod Drag Week. It looks like we are going to have to make our own headers. The engine mounts are also many weeks away, so...

HEMI arrived in a big orange box.

We will most likely move to FI later. One of our goals is to teach students and young engineers the basics of cars. I believe learning how to tune a carb, and seeing how tough it is to make a carb work on multiple environments, will make people appreciate FI more. It's hard to fully...

HEMI arrived in a big orange box.

Daty, I'm not sure right now. We will be sitting down with Mopar to figure out the details. I will let you know when we find out. I guess the proof will be in the pudding. We do need to get a new pan. The Mopar guys said Canton has a pan as well. These are all good questions, and ones we...

HEMI arrived in a big orange box.

The A999 is supposed to bolt right up to the 5.7L. Chrysler kept the bolt pattern the same. When we get ready to put the two together, I will post some more pictures. Thanks Ken

HEMI arrived in a big orange box.

Our project Dart is moving along very well. Yesterday, we took the wraps off the brand new crate HEMI! It looks great. http://www.oakland.edu/org/pdmc/images/hemicrate.jpg We are also in the process of replacing all of the rotten sheetmetal throughout the floor, toe board, and trunk...

    Help identify our trans

Thanks Justin. Justin is another member of the motorsports team. We have the front of the trans taken apart. When we get all the internals out, what will the A999 ratios be? Thanks Ken

    Help identify our trans

I'll take a look and post them later. The car is at school now. From what I've read it sounds like the case is the same for a 904 and 999. The gears are the difference. Is this correct? Thanks Ken

    Help identify our trans

We need some help figuring out exactly which trans we have in the Dart. The bellhousing has A904-LA cast into it. The TIN is JW161150. This trans was advertised as an A999. What are the differences? Thanks. Ken
