    Starter woes

I hooked up a ground directly to the starter. Still no crank. That left the battery. It's only 3 years old, still under warranty, so I never suspected it. It's always charged. I tested it with my battery tester and sure enough it's bad. Even though it was showing good voltage, it has no current...

    Starter woes

So, hooked up the old starter. Same result, rapid clicking, no crank. The article about low voltage got me thinking. I hooked up a multi meter to the battery and sure enough, its dropping to about 5 volts when I engage the starter. Going to run a ground directly to the starter and see if that...

    Starter woes

So y'all got me fired up. When I got home I ran out to the garage before dinner and bench tested the new PowerMaster. It's DOA. The Bendix pops out but no spin at all. Lesson learned, bench test before install. Going to return it and use the old starter.

    Starter woes

Sorry no bench test yet guys. I work during the week and am too tired to head out to the garage at night (getting old). It won't be until the weekend so cool your jets eh? ;-) The article in post #14 from @furrystump has me thinking though. The only thing we changed this winter was to add bigger...

    Starter woes

The bendix is definitely popping out and into the flywheel, but it's jamming up and not syncing. I didn't think I'd have to shim anything, but the instructions that came with the starter indicate otherwise. Shimming didn't help anyway. I spent the rest of my Sunday pulling off the headers and...

    Starter woes

Battery is new and fully charged, cables are all new, just rebuilt the engine a few years ago and made damn sure all the electrical was refreshed too. But thanks for the advice.

So, I added 2X .0625 thick washers. Same result, loud click no crank. More washers, did you use 2 per bolt? For a total of .125 or 1/8"?

    Starter woes

Hey there, 1974 Dodge Dart 360LA 902 transmission. Original starter crapped out (not bad for 50 years of service), bench tested and it barely spun but got damn hot. Bought a new PowerMaster and just installed it today. Loud click of the gear popping out but nothing else, no clicking ...

Replaced fuel line and added electric fuel pump, now won't start.

We bought the Carter P4594. The car still isn't running. It got cold here -12C and I'm getting too old to go work in the garage when it's that cold. Good luck with your swap.

Thanks, I'm guessing that you are Dell according to RustyRatRod.

If only I knew, it got pulled out while I was working on the car. There's 3 possible combinations, which one is right and which one fries some 50 year old wire?

Also, that the drivers side of the engine bay, by the windshield washer reservoir and the ignition module.

It does crank, so maybe that's not it. Here's pics.
