I am the owner of a 71 Demon which was the last car my grandpa and I were able to work on together. He had a long history of great builds and plenty of car show awards, some of which I had a hand in thanks to my retentive detailing. The first car he helped (he did most the real work) me get back on the road was a 76 Laguna S3, somewhat of a more rare vehicle and in my mind the last of the era of muscle cars. Well short story short, my first year driving with a mix of fog, nighttime, black ice and a farmers use of a light pole for his fencing made a quick end of that car. About 12 years ago we found a bought the Demon. A long slow every other weekend type of restoration was started. I ended up moving 3 plus hours away from my grandpas shop and my availability became smaller and smaller. His health declined quickly and my monthly trips down to sand down body panels turned into weekends driving him down from his rural home to the hospital for treaments. He finally passed. And with it seems all too many family deaths quarrels soon erupted. The shop of tools meant for my dad and I quickly disapeared along with multiple boxes full of my trim peices and other parts. I had luckily came down and towed my car home a month or two before. After that situation had passed I was left with a non/barely running slant 6 demon with a multiprimer color still rough body. I made it my goal that year to get it together and driveable. A lot if sunny sweaty days of sanding and a little motor cleaning and i had a presentable car, if you were the type that can see past primer. Within a year my then soon to be wife made a family collection for my paint job fund. That next summer i had the burgandy car I had imagined. Havent been able to afford a rebuild yet due to many things including twin boys and bigger houses. But soon I will be selling my first house which is being rented out now and Im allotting myself a small engine fund. The Demon has left me stranded only a handful of times and has been easy fixes so far, this 6 wont quit. I still risk the 40 minute drive to work every other week or so and knock on wood ive made it there, but much longer and it starts to want to stall out. The risk and incertainty is part of the enjoyment, something my wife cant understand. My reason to coming into this website is for help on mechanical things, namely motor swap or rebuild and whats possible on a shoestring budget. My mechanical knowledge is limited and i appreciate all the information given.
