[WANTED] 318 Block or Rebuilt Engine

Just a bit out of budget for me, haha.

Cracks between head bolts and coolant passages

Could you tell me what I'd need to change for that magnum? After doing some research earlier, I see that I won't be able to use my performer intake on it, and I assume I'd have to get a different cam. I am open to going this route as there are several sub 100k mile 5.9 and 5.2 magnums near me...

Unfortunately a rebuild on that one is 100% out of the question. Between the machine shop, pistons, rods, etc, it's going to put me about double my budget with the rest of the build.

Cracks between head bolts and coolant passages

Assuming this other 84 block I found is crack free, is there any reason not to go ahead with it at this point considering I have the blueprint and parts ready for assembly? I'm hearing that 80s blocks aren't worth a dime, and at this point it's either buy the block and have a running car this...

[WANTED] 318 Block or Rebuilt Engine

Looking for a solid 318 block, preferably pre-1980 for the beefier casting. Located in Wichita, KS Willing to drive a few hours for a good option. Thank you!

Thats the exact block I took out of the car, much beefier (included a picture of my findings after removing the heads on said block). But to reuse it, I'd need to tear it down, bore it, and buy new pistons. Nearly $800. I've found an 84 block in great shape 4hrs away, I'll probably be picking...

Cracks between head bolts and coolant passages

The blocks I have and have been finding with cracks are 82 (two of these), 84, and 85. My 76 318 (which threw a rod after getting too hot, the whole reason for this build) does have a beefier design than these 80s blocks.

That one ended up also being cracked. :/

Cracks between head bolts and coolant passages

Wow, well this is news to me! So, if I'm understanding correctly, I could reuse my performer intake that was on my LA, get new pushrods, and return my cam/lifters to get another cam with hydraulic lifters? I can find ~100,000mi 5.2 magnum engines complete for $500 around here, which is less...

Wait, I thought they weren't interchangeable? I also done want fuel injection and all the extra clutter that comes with a magnum. I guess I don't know as much about those.

All 5 of the blocks I've found in a 400mi radius have the same cracks, so I'm really not sure what to do here, lol. Machine shop I called says its fine, use thread sealer.

Of course not. The low power is nothing a cam and intake/exhaust mods can't fix.

I've gone 1,000mi for a car in the dead of winter, but parts is different, lol. I talked to the guy, I'll probably be going up there today.

I have some nicer heads off my old 76 block that I was going to use. I found 302 heads for $150 that I may still buy. Same guy from my last comment, 2.5hrs away.

That's good idea! I did find a seemingly good block for $100. Balancer bolt broke causing the crankshaft to crack. Supposedly no ridges in the bores and no visible cracks. Only problem is its over 2hrs away.
