the hose clamp worked great, it was all the crud built up around it that was giving me the trouble.

Is there an easy way to remove the emergency brake cable from the backing plate

It's hot and muggy here in Florida in the summer, working outside sucks. Now that it's cooling down it's not too bad, I'll get more done in the winter than I do in the summer!

That is a lot of work, but you got a lot done in a short time. Like you I have to do my work outside as my garage is too small and I mostly use it for the small stuff and my job prepping commercial doors and frames
