    That was in 2022.

D150 with a RV 440, just to see what it will run

I'll make a long story shorter. Back in 74 I bought a 64 Fury convertible off a friend and the deal was he got the 383 out of it. Another friend had a high mileage 440 out of a smashed up 72 New Yorker he had scrapped, the price was 20 dollars, the cam was wiped so I put a 2 barrel 361 cam in...

    The power of a 273

Matt Steen in his SS Valiant, I've spoken to him a few times, mostly machine shop talk but I think he said he was running the 318 heads also.

    IHRA buys Maple Grove

I haven't raced the Keystone Nats in years but was hoping to run the Dutch this coming year and possibly the divisional if I have the car ready so this is a big disappointment for me. The Dutch is the fastest air at a Div 1 Stock/Superstock race and now it's gone.

    727 Drum

I've never heard of a ring gear breaking on a 727 trans. If your drum exploded call A&A and they'll make you a valve body that holds the low band in first, never happen again.

Harmonic balancer thread size on crank?

Ha, the old Chevy junk, then they upgraded to a 3/8" bolt, meanwhile the big blocks had so much interference that the first auto machine shop I worked in back in the mid 70s used to buy a new damper puller every couple of months and these pullers were Snap on, not Chinese junk. I had a neighbor...

    383 vs 400

Given a similar bore size and the same induction, valve train and CR a larger CI engine will make more low end torque but the HP will be very close and occur at a lower RPM.

    413 in the 68 barracuda

You'll need a 62 or newer crank to run a modern TF.

273 Commando Rebuild Oil Pump Selection?

In the case of heads, manis, valve train and such yes but in Super Stock you can run some pretty exotic stuff in the oiling dept and I've spoken to him a few times at length and he's pretty much a straight shooter IMO.

273 Commando Rebuild Oil Pump Selection?

I use a stock 361 2 barrel pump in my Max Wedge race car, about 55-60 lbs through the traps at 7,100. No need for a Melling and if you do use a new Melling make sure it gets disassembled first as they sometimes come with machining grit in them from the factory and will ruin your new rebuild...

    Piston ring problem

They all come from Hastings is what I was told by a Mahle dealer, the moly top with .196"ish radial wall was phased out, if you get a set with it, it's old stock. Keith Jones at Total Seal said something similar.

    Piston ring problem

Yes, as long as the end gap is within reason you should be fine, the new style top ring is supposed to live longer as it is harder and has less tension but it needs a round cylinder that has been honed properly and don't overload the cylinders with heavy oil upon assembly, if you're not sure...

    Piston ring problem

I went through the same thing last year on a .070" over 383 build for my budget bracket car. It took about 2 months before I finally got a knowledgeable guy from Sealed Power's tech that said the top ring is .145" radial wall steel. I spoke with a few other machine shops and they said they were...

New engine combo, what will it run?

Unless the original block had ring seal issues it will probably run about the same, maybe a hair quicker if the additional stroke helps the 60'.

    Max Wedge heads

518s are 6 bolt, you're thinking of the 286 heads.
