    Biggest mistake ever- lunati cams

Biggest pain in the *** for this build is what I meant. I too had a woman ruin my life but she also gave me 2 children which are also the best part of it. Personally, I stated that I bought this cam profile to use power brakes along with performance aspects for the street and could have got a...

Distributor should be on # 1 after intake closes and the mark comes up because that is it's compression stroke then fires at that point. Unless I am mistaken.

Awesome knowledge. Really appreciate learning that. I have a good 10-15 rebuilds under my belt over the years. Just turned 60 yrs young last year and just finding that out makes me more wise. Thanks again!

Wow. I never knew that. That just made my brain smoke! Lol Totally makes sense now. Just never thought of setting it up like that. Then just check with a light to dial it in. Most are saying 35° with that cam but don't really need that much to start with.

My damper has up to 60° marked and also grooved every 1/4 turn. So I just spin the crank till say 30° on the damper and line up the cap/rotor?

Agreed. Still a lot of $$$ tho. Better safe and good knowledge helps a lot. I only know enough to be dangerous so every little bit of info helps. Also a #s matching motor so a little more stress for me.

Once the intake opens and the piston comes up, that's when it is tdc correct? How do you figure out the 30° with rotating the distributor? Also will that be clockwise or counterclockwise? I always just lined up the cap with the rotor, fired and set the rpm then grabbed the timing light. If there...

    Biggest mistake ever- lunati cams

Well between this and the e body site, I got the information I was looking for. I also got some informative videos which pushed me to making a smart decision. I decided to remove the inner springs for cam break in just to give the cam it's best chance to survive. Spring psi is set and I am...

I loved the purple shafts. I had a motor built by jegs 45 yrs ago by jegs and the stuck a racer brown cam in there. That was an awesome cam and recently built another 340 with those same specs. I called him at racer brown, as the original owner passed on. Was a lil difficult to get a hold of...

    Biggest mistake ever- lunati cams

My intentions were fully explained to the shop before the work was done. I had them shaved to 63cc to have the compression where I wanted. I also had the pockets matched and seats re cut for 3angles. Gave him the cam chart and told him that I needed the springs installed. A few weeks later, I...

    Biggest mistake ever- lunati cams

I was able to use the springs that were spec'd for the cam. When I bought the PKG, I called lunati and talked about it with them before I bought it and there was no issues getting in touch. That was about 3 years ago. During the build, I heard about the sm heads and decided to go with them so I...

    Biggest mistake ever- lunati cams

Agreed. Was overheating on lunati mainly because of their horrible tech line and the machine shop that was paid to do the work was a highly recommended shop that plain just screwed me. If I would have known that I could shim that much I was able to handle that. Even still, when I took the heads...

    Biggest mistake ever- lunati cams

Took the sm heads to a machine shop which was hard to find during the pandemic, still in the boxes to be checked and set up for my new cam choice. Paid them 1100$ to assure they were set up properly. Stock heads were worked before that by same shop. I explained that I wanted to use the lunati...

My neighbor build motors for sprint cars and put that same cam in a Chevy for his son with both springs installed and it runs great. The machinst builds lots of motors with lunati cams He used to build motors for Mike Dunn before he went into nhra. He said it's a waste of time and I realize that...
