my old 5th ave was cranky and didn't like to start when temps got under 20 with an air gap and 600 electric choke edlebrock carb.....will F/M/J exhaust manifolds fit? they might be easier to find with a heat stove than a 55 year old A body one.....
of course because I'm an OCD mechanical engineer I put my measurements into a spreadsheet so I could quickly play with different combos to estimate tire clearances. assuming it's a wheel vintiques 15x8 with 4.5" BS, that combo according to my measurements should but the outside edge of the tire...
original A body axle is 57 1/8" wide, 68-70B body rear, IIRC is 60.5" wide. (wheel mount face to wheel mount face). I took measurements a couple years ago when I was looking at different rear axle options to get BBP. you should be able to fit a 275mm wide tire with about 1/2" of clearance to...
that's right....been a while since I've played with M's, but cop cars did get a 2.94 option as well....also was probably an 8.25 instead of a 7.25" rear
civilian M bodies for the most part had 2.24 rear gears unless they had some sort of a towing package. IIRC cop cars were 2.45 or so. mine with my warmed up mag headed roller cam 318 (stock bottom end, mild reground cam, headers, RPM air gap and eddie 600 carb) would get 20mpg on the highway...
granted when I did it back in 2006 or so, I sent them a roller cam core from my '85 5th avenue 318 (was a carbed motor so it had the long snout for a mechanical fuel pump). on that core they were able to do this lobe for the intake: HR259/316 which is 259@0.006 (adv) 208@0.05 127@0.2 0.3160...
what are the .2" duration numbers? I assume lift is based on the magnum's 1.6 rockers? for what you want to do, I'd probably go with #1429. I bet those lobe profiles have the same, if not more duration at .2" duration than the lobes on the #2204, so it will make as much or more power and torque...
yep.....no reason to play with them, go magnum and don't look back if you want a low buck high performing engine using factory heads. did that with an '85 roller cam 318 out of my 5th avenue 20 years ago, ditched the 302 heads, replaced with magnums and thin head gaskets, a reground roller cam...
distance to the flat area is what you're concerned about. when I built my mag headed 318 years ago I used thin gaskets, I think they were Mopar Performance and .024" thick, but looks like those are NLA. Cometic also has .027" thick ones, too...
