    CAM HELP NEEDED!

Hughes prides themselves on using "REAL CHRYSLER" fast-ramp cams (high lift for a given duration) which do give more performance but at the cost of valvetrain longevity (mainly springs and lifters). A buddy of mine used one of their hydraulic flat-tappet cams in the SBM in his Ramcharger truck...

Those Running 3.73 And a TF w/ LockUp.. What's your highway Driving Like?

Lots of factors involved... You mention running a 340, those tend to have less grunt than 360s. I'm wondering if you're getting into the power enrichment opening the throttle that much when it's in 4th, might be better off downshifting to 3rd when you need any extra acceleration. I know the...

    Borgeson or Firm Feel steering?

I have a Firm Feel Stage 2 PS box in my '70 Duster, it's great but if I did it again I'd go with the Borgeson. Too bad it didn't exist back in 2008, that was one of the first upgrades I did to my car.

    Should I buy this 440?

According to "Chrysler Engines: 1922-1998" by Willem Weertman, the E85-code police HP engines went through 1975 and had true duals, low-restriction air cleaner, and the Magnum/Super Commando camshaft. If the HP 440 was continued through 1978 like the Hemmings article says (seen it referenced as...

Those Running 3.73 And a TF w/ LockUp.. What's your highway Driving Like?

    2.74 x 3.08 = 8.44 2.74 x 3.27 = 8.96 2.74 x 3.55 = 9.73 2.74 x 3.73 = 10.22 2.54 x 3.08 = 7.82 2.54 x 3.27 = 8.31 2.54 x 3.55 = 9.07 2.54 x 3.73 = 9.14 I realized since you have a lockup 904 you have a lower 1st gear than an earlier non-lockup 904 or 727 (2.74:1 1st vs. 2.54:1). Above shows...

Those Running 3.73 And a TF w/ LockUp.. What's your highway Driving Like?

Very true. In my specific case it's not really the noise, more the feel of having to use more throttle to keep the car at a steady speed and how much engine braking there is when I let off the gas. For me it's more the knowledge that my engine is spinning way faster than it needs to and I'm...

Those Running 3.73 And a TF w/ LockUp.. What's your highway Driving Like?

I've had 3.55s in my Duster with a non-lockup 904 for the past year and a half, acceleration is excellent but the cruising RPMs got on my nerves enough that I'm swapping the 2.94 3rd-member back in. Freeway speed limit here is 70 mph between cities and most traffic cruises at 75-80, 3200+ RPM...

    Factory high stall converter

If it's going behind a stock-stroke 340, neither (there were 2 factory V8 TC sizes) will stall near 2500. I have a factory 11" 904 TC which is the smaller thus higher stall of the 2 and it barely hit 2200 behind a warmed-up, small-cammed 10.5:1 360. IMO your only option to get 2500+ with a 340...

Signs you're getting old for Classic Car Owners

Lol I wear the gold toe low-cut socks, occasionally with slip-on sandals but not really outside the house. More around the house or garage if I'm not wrenching. I just don't like how white socks look especially if I'm wearing shorts, apparently high-cut white socks are "in" with the teenagers...

Signs you're getting old for Classic Car Owners

I have dreams every now and then where I'm banging gears in my old 5-speed '93 Cherokee, it was my daily driver for 10 years and then got rear-ended and totaled. Even in my dream I think "hey I thought I didn't have this car anymore...?" Lol. Then I wake up and remember it got crushed 3 years...

who to trust for hydraulic flat lifters these days?

Schneider lists new lifters on their site, I assume Hylift-Johnson is where they get them then?

    46RH rebuild?

TF-based transmissions are known to run "dirty", there will always be some amount of black or gray pasty residue in the pan after the trans has been run for a while. Like @TrailBeast said as long as there aren't any chunks or shiny metallic-looking debris in the pan and the fluid is red/pink...

    Manifold Vacuum Experiment

The vacuum advance canister diaphragm acts against a spring. Adjusting the canister increases or decreases spring tension so the diaphragm moves a different distance for a given amount of vacuum being applied. When vacuum is released it only takes as long as the spring can push the diaphragm...

    Manifold Vacuum Experiment

@RustyRatRod thank you for posting results on this (oddly) controversial topic. I for one don't understand why this topic gets so heated, it's almost as bad as what oil to run or Edelbrock vs. Holley carbs. A lot of this hobby is about experimentation and making things work for your specific...
