Sounds like a broken rocker to me, maybe pushrod went straight through it. Had it happen on one I had just built only 2 hours in, replaced it and all is great!

The regular coarse/fine compound that is easy to find, is 120/280...Its been about 20 years since I've done this too, but I have always had excellent results with those grits! Hope that helps....

Our old cars are here to put parts on, because they were made when America was the number ! manufacturer, unfortunately now everything is made outside the US and quality is a foreign word....

Again sorry for any confusion, your thinking on TTY is in line, there are several sites that can explain it way better than I can, my point was that your bolts don't need replacing, and your car has no TTY bolts on it.

TTY=Torque to yield. Don't mean to be confusing, all TTY bolts must be replaced, non TTY do not.
