Hi Everyone, I live in Indiana and I just bought this 1966 Valiant 100 2 door from California three months ago and had it shipped here. It was built in L.A. and has been in that area since new. This car has all the trim and is complete. Its not perfect but is all there. I have the broadcast...
Thanks Killer6! Yes I do appreciate everyone's help with this. Such an awesome forum! Hoping its not internal issues. So far everything I've tried to fix on this 66 Valiant has gone well and was caused by neglect and lack of knowledge. Thanks so much for your input and I will post the results!
Ok, Thanks for the info! I'm gonna dive back into it this weekend. I'm really hoping its a bushing/linkage and adjustment issue because the other gears work fine. Once its in 2nd gear going to 3rd gear or visa versa its very easy. Getting it from 2nd or 3rd towards me to get it in 1st or reverse...

Thanks so much AJ/FormS! Sure hope your right about the problem being external! That is my gut feeling too. It does feel like if I could pull the shift lever down a little more it would stay in 1st gear. I have a lot of things to look at and try soon as this weather lets up here in Indiana...
Thanks KosmicKuda! I thought of the bushing issue too seeing the car was made and been in CA its whole life till now. Got a service manual on the way and some members have been nice enough post some pictures and text that apply and some very good advice. Really appreciate your input! Where did...
Thank you so much again pishta! Yes this looks like the correct section and I really appreciate you taking the time to post this! I will start there and see what happens. I'm really hoping the transmission don't have to come out but I'm optimistic because the other gears work well other than...
Thank you 67Dart273! I will see if what I'm looking for is in the manual that is posted looking it up as you have suggested. pishta posted some photos of the correct section I need that is in the FSM that is much appreciated. Hope to figure this out soon and really hoping the transmission don't...
