Thank you halifaxhops! I guess a longer adjustment hole would effectively have the same result as larger rubbing block, and the points you show have both over the one I have. I'm convinced that not only do I have an inferior part, but one that won't even work.

These are the points I installed. I still have the box. The points that were in there also looked good. Something else is going on.

The car is clean and straight (even has original AM radio) but someone has been in there changing parts in an effort to get it running for sale. The points that were in there seem brand new also.

Story on this car is I bought it from a thrift store, one of those local "charity" stores that advertises donating your car for a tax write off. The car was donated, and I bought it.

1970 225 Slant 6. I installed brand new points, went to adjust the gap, and I can't get them to open at all. Even when they're as close to the cam as I can get them. Is it possible the cam is worn out, or am I missing something? The lobes are super shiny, but I don't know if they should be...
