I rebuilt it! One of the “spring clips” was broken on the “D”rive button plate and a buddy of mine was able to fabricate a new one from spring steel. I cleaned and reassembled and put in new bulbs. Its so nice now!

I suppose it won't really hurt to try... the car drove "in Drive" before I pulled it out.. it had just been refusing to go into reverse. It went into Neutral and Park ok ... so far as I experimented.
So I've been working on my '63 Valiant and I got to the point I decided to rebuild the transmission. I've finally gotten it out of the car and torn down and I'd like some advice.
There is evidence of destruction in the Bell Housing and I'd like a recommendation if this housing is useable...
I pulled mine out of the dash attempting to restore it. The reverse button lever won't click into place and when you look at that lever it appears that the "clasp" mechanism one of the forks has broken off. Really not sure how if I have the skill to fab a new one.

I hate to bring this up... but doesn't that "V" insignia indicate a Valiant? Probably a '64 or '65. The Barracuda would have had the Barracuda fish logo I would think.
Anyone have a recommendation for where to get replacement leaf springs for a '63 Valiant (or Dart)? Looking online, '63 seems to be a bit of an unpopular year for restoration parts. I'd prefer bolt on parts that I don't have to modify if possible. Alternatively, can these leaf springs be...
I'll probably spend the money to order the '65 kit and just compare the springs with what I've got. I don't really trust that I've got original equipment now that I see the mistakes made in there.
Thanks for the catch on the shoes being reversed. I hadn't caught that. Do you happen to know why I can't find brake hardware kits listed for a 63? Do you know if any other 9" Drum kits would work?
That particular part says it fits Valiants from '65-'68... I wonder why they think it won't fit '63? Could it be the 5x4 bolt pattern? What else changed? Especially since it fit's a '63 dart.. Tempted to try anyway.
Ok, I also notice that clearly I'm missing the "Hold Down" spring for the rear shoe. I've searched Rock Auto, Summit Racing, many others... Any advice welcome.
