    Engine oiling problems

Some of you might remember my other thread about this engine. Anyways, I have this "supposedly renovated" 318 that I put in my Barracuda -66. I had some initial problems with it getting stuck while cranking it, but got it loose and running by adding some oil down the spark plug holes. Then I...

Help! Can't keep engine running once started...

Things took a nasty turn today. The squeaking I was talking about seem to be the crankshaft. It squeaks and it is very hard to crank by hand. This happened before, as I wrote in another thread, but without the squeaking. Then I got it loose with some oil in the spark plugs but that don't help...

Help! Can't keep engine running once started...

This is my logic: I do what I can with a limited set of time. I didn't have a piston stop and didn't have the means to produce one. So I turned engine by hand while checking marks on the stick who touched the top of the cylinder against the brim of the spark plug hole. Like a manual dial...

Help! Can't keep engine running once started...

Todays progress (well.. not really): - Started with fixing a big leak in the left exhaust pipe, thinking it might help a little to have same resistance on both sides. Both exhaust pipes are now without any known (big) leaks. - Removed the spark plugs, which where completely sooty, but I guess...

Help! Can't keep engine running once started...

Good things, I will try to try these things tomorrow. What do you mean by tie choke open tough? As it is now the choke must be half open for best start up. If I either close or open fully engine die. It's like the running engine is very fragile to every little thing that happens to it. If I have...

Help! Can't keep engine running once started...

Yea don't think thats it. As 73AbodEE said it will backfire out the carb if 180 degrees out. And it did before. So I turned it 180 degrees and it then started with like 20 degrees more adjustment. As I said, if I rotate distributor a little cw or ccw it will go worse, but if it was 180 degrees...

Help! Can't keep engine running once started...

I actually had it running a limited amount of time without throttle last week but as soon as I touched the choke it died. The only thing changed (to my knowledge) is that a car mechanic welded the sawn off exhaust pipes. Now I can keep it running at about 2000 rpm and up without it dying. It...

Help! Can't keep engine running once started...

Sounds probable, but as I said, once I get it started it runs fine on like 2000 rpm and up. Low pressure could still be the problem tough? Hopefully the car mechanic who helps me have a pressure gauge so I can check tomorrow. Damn I hate that there is like 1 hour drive to nearest car part shop...

Help! Can't keep engine running once started...

It actually feels like that also when I run the engine, but since it gets fuel and I haven't touched the screws on the carburetor I am unsure... Does it sound to you like its running out of fuel because filter is to tight (I just put in a standard filter that was at the local car shop and didn't...

Help! Can't keep engine running once started...

What I did was turn engine so that the timing mark was 5-10 btdc, then put distributor cap on and connect the spark plug whole on the cap where the rotor pointed to 1 cylinder, etc. Didn't work. Turned rotor shaft 180 degrees. Kinda worked. Turned rotor until engine started, was about 25 degrees...

Help! Can't keep engine running once started...

I got one more problem in the cliff hanger that is my engine swap. Hopefully you can help me with this problem also as my current knowledge have kept me in the garage with this problem all day and I got no progress... Background story: So I put in a newly renovated 318 from the 1985-89 era in...

Help! Newly renovated engine got stuck while cranking it...

As of today I am in the loving phase of the love-and-hate relationship I have with my car! Thanks for all the help! I lifted the distributor up and turned the shaft 180 degrees and installed it again. The engine then fired on like two cylinders, so I knew I was on the right path. So I kept...

Help! Newly renovated engine got stuck while cranking it...

The powder extinguisher was used like one second from the side of the carburetor so not much got in there. Used compressed air to remove it from both engine compartment and carburetor. Can (should I) clean it in some other way? Can't say I saw any powder down in the carburetor even before I blew...

Help! Newly renovated engine got stuck while cranking it...

Thanks! Better to have to much info than to little =) You don't think these small adjustments that have to be made could be the problem right now? I tried turning the dizzy like one inch to the right and one inch to the left, but it still didn't fire tough... I always thought that these small...
