My wife's 65 ragtop(the red one)basically has the same set up as you have with 9 inch drum/drum brakes and works great.

We have 2 65 valiant rag tops and when I fill them I keep my ear right down to the opening and when it starts to surge I stop.

We also have our 65 Valliant Signet rag top and that piece does run the length of the quarter window to the door.I'd be willing to bet that you're right .o n my wifes car it stops where you have it marked in green. Ted.
