What I meant by the swap is looking better every day is that the more I learn about the 318 and it's strengths and limitations, the more I think it might be more cost effective to start looking for a 360 (been kind of looking for one out of a motor home) to achieve what I want with this build...

There's an unholy amount of oil leaking where the heads attach to the block. You're right though, I just assumed. I'll try to grab some pics this week and see what yall think. Thanks.

    More newb questions

I started to take off my headers today and when I took off the first bolt, water started pouring out. At first I thought it was gas, which was also puzzling... but it was definitely water. When I took off the valve covers I didn't notice any water in there. The head gaskets are bad, but...

    318 carb questions

Thanks for all the replies. I am not looking at this first step as a way to make this engine something everyone talks about, I know gains will be minimal. But I will be building this project for the next few years so I don't want to have to rebuild a 2bbl when I should have gotten a 4 to begin...

    318 carb questions

That helps immensely. I know the rear has non stock gears, I'm going to figure out what they are tomorrow. I'm absolutely not against getting a bigger cam, in fact the car might already have one. I won't know until I get it apart. I'm just trying to figure out where to start on a project...

    318 carb questions

First off, I apologize for this question and the no doubt countless others in going to ask in the near future. Besides changing spark plugs, filters, and oil, I've never done anything (nor do I know anything) about engines. But I'm excited to learn. I'm finally getting down to taking apart...

    Hello from an absolute newbie

I was stationed at Luke for a bit. And i also enjoyed ripping up the canyons on my bike. The rear springs aren't just flat, they have reverse arch. I have been looking around for new ones. I want a nice stance but not insane rake. I feel like I'm chasing my tail on this build.. so many things...

    Hello from an absolute newbie

I was driving down the road the other day and found a beautiful 68 valiant at a great price. It's a 318 with headers, dual exhaust, a couple MSD parts. Allegedly cammed, but having never driven a 318 I can't tell. There's clearly a vacuum leak so it's running a little wonky. I know nothing about...
