Does anyone know what the correct casting number is for a 67 383 Barracuda bellhousing?
Is it 2536945, 2468372, or something else?

The upper pivot bracket bolt hole is busted, and its causing the bracket to become loose over time and move, messing up the Z bar movement. The upper bolt has been welded to the bracket to 'fix' the problem, see pics.

Can the bellhousing be fixed? And how?

Does someone make a good new one that looks stock?

I tried Brewers but they do not have any at the moment, pic below.

In my book the number that ends with 945 is the part number maybe the part and casting numbers is the same?
I wonder if a helicoil could fix the problem?

I don't think there is enough material for a helicoil, there is about half, or more, of the threaded hole gone.

I checked on-line for the correct casting number, and I found 2536945 in a couple of places, and one forum indicated that was not correct and the correct one was 2468372.

I looked at the online, Challenger and Barracuda Restoration Guide, 1967-74 By Paul A. Herd, which is usually incorrect anyway, and it has the 67 383 on the list of bellhousings with no casting number listed.

I would like to get another one before I take this apart.

matthon,
I have an original that came out of an untouched 67 383 formula S Cuda.
When I get home middle of next week I will get it out and see if it has a
casting # for you. I am working up in Colorado so I am 300 miles from
home. I have almost all the parts for the car but the body. The car rusted so
bad it folded up at the firewall. Parted it out 30yrs ago but only sold very few parts.
I read somewhere else here about a fast ratio manual steering box, but can't find the
post again. They came in these 383 S cars. I have it also.

matthon,
Sorry it took me a while to get back to you here.
The casting # 2468372 is what is on mine. It is
the original as I was the first one to unbolt it from
the factory. The other casting #2536945 may also
be correct and just from a different foundry? So
the first one is the original for my car but can't
say for any others.
Take Care,
Rick
