i'm looking for a rebuild kit for my '65 dart manual steering gear box. im trying to stay with as many orginal parts as i can.

does any one have any websites or companies that sell these things? i have looked with no luck :banghead:

Matt I cant help with the gear box, but I have some other parts for a 65 dart. Hood, complete dash with pad, steering colom and other nickle dime things. If your interested. I will also be selling at the Indy show in march. Bob

Matt, Try calling this place, it's local.

exactly what are you looking to replace? i am in the process of doing mine. firm feel gets $100 for bearings and seals. there are 2 worm shaft bearings, 2 seals, and a top gasket that can be made out of gasket material, or cardboard, rtv, whatever. i couldnt find all the parts from one location other than firmfeel, but shipping was cheap enough. the seals and bearings were all 5-7$ each. i dont have any good parts stores around here but you might be able to just take the numbers to a napa or something and get them.

the car sat for 28 years and all the grease ran/oozed out so i just wanted to take it apart and replace the seals and fill it back up with grease. i think the bearings are ok.... i just dont want to spend 300 for a new one when i can just put some elbow grease and a few parts into it and have it working like new.

i was thinking about going to Firm Feel as well. we will see what other people have to say and i will go from there. :)

you have to figure out which box you have and just buy the seals. im sure the bearings are useable.

trying to get this shaft out, any ideas? here is the part numbers off the housing if anyone knows where i can get the bearings and seals for it

housing part # 2267225 '64
existing bearing # torrington Y-1812 ( on the cap for the pitman arm shaft)

you have to unscrew that whole piece. the large steel hex and the aluminum piece with the six holes.

yeah i doubt they are available anywhere, you would have to get creative and make something work. i tired to rush instead of making a tool i stuck 2 screwdrivers in the holes and a pry bar across them. got it loose but i cracked one or 2 of them. it will still work but a tool would be nice. your best bet, find some one with the shop manual to your car.

There MUST be better pricing available than firmfeel. I had a look at thier "rebuild" kits and holy cow,are they pricey. I mean come on .Seals are only a couple bucks each at any parts store,so why so much at firmfeel? Seems like they have a "firmfeel" on your wallet.

Sorry matarcher. I dont mean to rain on your parade, but have you tried a parts store like Napa? You need a parts guy that knows what he is doing,so dont bother with autozone,or pepboys lol! In fact I bet I can find out the seal #'s for you from my parts guy.

there are threads here on fabo with all the info you need. i was not able to find my parts from one source but i did it for much less than firmfeel wanted for there kit.

Great info there Matarcher!!Thanks!

Im going to look into all these part#s and see if I can get any of it.

yea i did a quick look and i think the parts are for a large sector shaft. so im not sure if i can use them or not. sometimes these posts can be so helpful and frustrating at the same time..... im totally compliable of rebuilding this gear box IF i can get the correct parts for it..... i really hope someone can help.

OK I know there are two types of steering boxes, but I guess you have a small sector shaft box? Im confused as to which one is the more common one used in our Darts. Small sector right? I thought the large scetor shaft box was used in trucks.
