I have just purchased a Perma Cool trans cooler for the 904 in my '71 swinger. I am fairly certain I will run braided stainless lines to it.

I have 2 questions,
first, what size line should I use..6 AN, 8 AN?
second, can you tell me what size fittings are required at the trans?

Thanks for any help.

fittings in the case are 1/8npt. factory lines are 5/16ths. I'd run just -6AN on both cooler lines. -4AN actually turns out to be 1/4" (smaller than factory) which is worse off. Russell actually shows 5/16ths to be -5AN...but finding -5 fittings would suck. Keeping it simple, more fittings, and not restricting more (-4)...go with -6AN

I'm putting a 360 in my demon, and will need trans lines also, but am using the cooler in the radiator. Can I go to autozone/advance auto/napa, and get a "universal" trans line to fit this? Or a kit I can make a line out of with flexible tubing? If so, what do I need to ask for?

Or, since I'm keeping the 904, might the lines from the slant 6/904 fit the 360/904? I guess they will not.

Thanks guys. I was under the car last night trying to find the best route away from the headers. I think I'm going to wind up running the lines up near the steering column, across the shock tower and out next to the battery. Nothing else looked promising.

Anyone else have a better place?

I have never worked with any braided steel lines before. Is it difficult to work with? Can I make my own lines, or should I buy lines made to length?

It's not cheap, so I don't want to find out the hard way this time.

The braided lines are fairly easy to work with. 2- 6' lengths of -AN6 is plenty.
To cut em' wrap electrical tape around your spot and cut with a 32TPI hacksaw blade. WD40 or silocone helps alot getting the fittings together. Also being careful not to fray the braids too much makes life easier.

It's easy to do. I used -6 on my 727. I used a little under 12 ft total, way safer then the rubber garbage I was using before.
