Can someone recommend some sound deadening material?

Hey,

I was hoping that someone could possibly recommend some sound deadening material/coating that I could pick up. The reason why I ask is because I went a bit overboard on the exhaust system on my Duster and got a 3” system installed on it with the flowmaster delta 40’s. IT DRONES LIKE CRAZY!! But outside of the car is sounds SWEET! I am getting it painted this April and will be taking some parts out of the interior so I will have an opportunity to get something in there between the floor and carpet. Also, if it insulates that is great too! (I do not have a heater in it!!) I swapped that out for an electric water pump!

I will be running this right from the firewall, along the floor right back to where the rear speakers are.

Any recommendations/advice is very appreciated!!

I used Dynamat and did the whole interior of my 70 coronet and will be doing my 72 Scamp as well. I think the stuff is awesome. Buy the extreme bulk pack from amazon.com. It should do the whole interior. I am also running flowmaster 40series. You will still get some of the drone, but it helps a lot to reduce noise. I have no experience with the cheaper knock off brands.

Lowes sells a roofing product called "Peel and Seal". It's a self adhesive Tar-like material with foil on the outside for heat resistance. I'm told it's the same material that Dyna-mat started out with before they developed thier own. I did the rear speaker deck of my Duster. With the car off the front speakers are louder than the rear, but as soon as I start the car and drive the fronts get lost but the rears sound awesome. I haven't gotten around to doing the doors yet, but I plan to them when I do the carpet and replace the original padding with this stuff. A friend of mine is really happy with Lizard Skin paint on coating on his Cobra kit car, but it's kind of pricey.

I used Peel/Seal as well as a sound deadener kit similar to this (see pic):

Just be sure to leave it in the sun for a while and it forms to floorboard really well.

I personally feel the Peel/Seal helps more with heat and some sound... but the thicker sound deadener pad is the bomb. I also had mass backing on my carpet... may be overkill but its down and Im happy. Thats all that matters.
