How to fix a loose rear view mirror base? Any ideas??

Hey all, i have a 70' duster with a little problem...when its cold out the rear view mirror is nice and tight and stays wherever i put it but when the car sits outside or during the summer months, the mirror is soo loose on the base that i can't even accelerate from a stop wituout it wiggling around....is it just worn out and if so, any affordable vendor sugestions to buy a new one? Or is there an amazing home remedy i should know about? :) thanks!!!!
 
Put a piece of paper between the socket and mounting plate add enoucgh to keep it tight. I have done this with a couple of mine works great.
 
...............take off mount from body, remove the screws holding the base together.....flatten it out some, reinstall, will be nice and snug.........kim....
 
I've done this a bunch of times. Remove it from the car and take the 3 screws off the plate that tightens the ball on the inside. Then cut a little square off a cereal box and place it in between the plate and the ball and tighten the screws back. It'll be tighter than a you know what once you get it back installed. It might be a good idea to wire wheel the mirror arm while it's off if it has any pitting or rust.
 
if it's the type that has a ball and socket (as opposed to a remote-type) you can do like I did to the rear-view mirror in my Duster: to stop it from flopping around, I spread some krazy glue on the ball, then moved it around while it dried (so it wouldn't actually glue it in place). The glue dries and gives a friction surface to hold it where it gets put. Worked for me anyways:D
 
Often just slightly tightening the 3 small screws is enough but be careful they will strip easy and this also applies when shimming. If you need another mirror PM me i have a nice tight used one
