Looking for original pics or documentation (old ads or build sheet codes) on 1970 340 Dart Swinger tire/wheel combos. As far as I know/believe they came with Goodyear Polyglas E70 14 tires on rally rims or 5.5 steelies with full wheelcovers (dodge Division in the middle) Early cars having the mag style. Some think they were available with the 340 rims (color keyed with the red stripe dog dish) which I don't think they were, and the reason for starting this thread. Although they do look fine!

Some of you were around when these were cruising the streets and on the lot in 1970, I was not, so any info/old pics would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

The painted wheel/dog dish was standard. the black wheel/full wheel cover was optional, as was the rallye wheel.

Nice pics, the white one looks like it has wider than stock wheels in the back & 4.5s in the front.
I have the ad also & point being if they were advertising the bare bones, cheap price car why wouldn't it have poverty caps? Says at the bottom of the ad "wheel covers-simulated mag, wire (never seen a 340 Swinger with or heard of one that had them from the factory, not saying it didn't happen, just want proof), deluxe. Tires E70x14 wide-tread tires with raised white letters.

Keep the pics, comments coming!

You had standard equipment and optional equipment. It's as simple as that.

Of all the Swingers made, I'm sure at least one came with each style of available wheel cover.

The dog dish, all of the full wheel covers, and the ralley wheel are all equally correct.

What would be specifically correct for a given car would be found on the build sheet.

I thought that picture looked familiar, its a pic from my 70 Swinger gallery LOL :D

Here are pics of the 4 styles that came on the 70 Dart, the GTS pot metal caps I believe were on very early cars, not many snuck out with those. And of course, Rallye rims were available too.

I really like those gts style hubcaps! I've seen a 1970 swinger like mine (EV2 car) with them and they really looked good on the car. I'm still hoping to find the build sheet in my car when I start tearin it apart.. I still think it came with the steelies with the dog dish caps tho.. So it's only early production cars that got them? My car it September 22, 1969 so it could be a possibility too.

Most car ads don't show you the bare bones car in the pic. In the fine print on the advertisement they're stating the "options shown" as wheel covers, whitewall tires, bumper guards and vinyl roof are extra. The headrests (1969 ones) and rear stripe are wrong on that car tho.. And it appears Sadam is driving it!

I still believe the steelies (painted to match the car) and the dodge dogdish hubcaps are standard. (The 5.5" steelies obviously)

This is from a 1970 brochure,

The 1st & 3rd pic of full wheel covers came on Darts (Mag style on early cars), that 2nd one looks like it came on a Charger or Coronet definitely not a Dart though. The dog dish is the one in question.

I have some press photos showing the 2nd wheelcover on the 1970 Dodge Dart, I will have to dig them out, I believe I also have a early brochure that shows them on a car too. Maybe they were not an option, but used for early press pictures?

Nobody have any original ads with them on a car (color keyed with red stripe dog dish), or build sheets with the code? Don't think it happened guys!

I know it happened becuase I had more than a few 70 340 Darts over of the years that were original and were equipt with hubcaps (dog dishes), wheelcovers and rallye wheels. You have to remember, not all cars came with Broadcast sheets, and when Chrysler was making print ads back then... as well as now, they would show optional equiptment on the car. So, it is common to see optional wheels, tires, extra cost paint, vinyl tops, hood pins, flat black hoods and so on. All the optional items that made these cars look racier and meaner. Here are the codes for the wheels, dog dish caps are called hubcaps, becuase they juct covered the hub and lugs. Wheel covers covered to entire wheel, both standard and deluxe...and wire were available

W01 hubcaps
W02 wheel trim rings
W04 hubcaps w/trim rings
W06 collapsible spare tire
W07 delete spare tire
W08 regular spare tire convert
W09 compact spare tire

Hemiorangeswinger, I would like to see more pics of that 1970 brochure! Got any more?

I forgot where I found that on the Internet...

The guy I've been buying parts off of is a huge A-body fanatic and he recently sold a project car to a guy out in red deer and the car was a bare bones 3 speed manual plum crazy purple 1970 swinger 340 and the broadcast sheet called for the steel wheels with hubcaps he said (had FC7 beside the wheel call out as well) He told me they were standard on these cars and I believe him. He's also the guy I bought my 5.5" steelies off of.

Here's some good original ad info as well. http://www.highdefforum.com/1256504-post4686.html

Some great info on codes & some nice pics, love seeinf 340 Swingers with different colors/stripes/tops/options!

Thanks you as well for your effort in posting all the info & pics!

Would love to see that build sheet one day when that FC7 car is finished. The window sticker pic of the FC& one was a 3 speed stick as well (sold car) but had Rally's I see. Don't know what to run on mine now...

Cheers guys, someone post their build sheet with the W01 wheel code if possible! (cover your VIN ofc)

I don't know about redlines, but my original '70 340 Swinger 340 has the body color(B5 blue) 5.5 steelies with the red circle poverty caps. If you'd like, I'll check the build sheet for the code.

I wouldnt get frustrated with anyone trying to learn. We all learn everyday. As for redlines, they were not available after 1969.

No problem!

That window sticker of the FC7 car has the four speed option listed below. The description above just shows what comes standard on the 340 swinger and the addition options were listed below.. $14.05 for high impact paint and $187.90 for the four speed! I wish I had a time machine!

You don't have the build sheet for your car either? I wish Chrysler would have put the wheel options on the fender tag!

The numbers on the red stripe dog dish must be super low (as are a 3 speed stick numbers) and would think that is what they were on for the most part. Stripper model.
