Hi, got a 68 Dart and want to put big bolt pattern axle shafts in the rear end my question is will I be able to use the current brake setup I have? Can I just get different brake drums or do I have to get different backing plates and drums? Its a 8 3/4 rear. It has the 5-4" pattern now want to go with 5-4 1/2 to match the disc brakes someone else has already put on the front. Thanks!

use doctordiff axles.

big bolt axles use the B, C, and E brakes so you can use any brakes off of those or even a 8.25 disc brakes off a jeep

Not hijacking this........But I am in the process of rounding up parts for my 66 Dart, to change it from 10 in drums to BBJ, LBP front disc and rear drums. I have an A-Body 8 3/4 rear. I take it, I can't use my rear 10 in baking plates, and 10x1 3/4 in shoes, with LBP Dr Diff rear axels. Is that correct,??. If it is I guess I'll have to find more parts.

7.25 (i think both large and small bolt) and 8.75 small bolt both use an odd 2" offset (housing to axle flange). All your big bolt (5x4.5) axles all use a standard 2.5" offset.

if you redrill a stock small bolt axle you can drill your drums and good to go but if converting to LBP rears your going to need a brake off a B, C, E, or any of the letter cars with a 8.25 rear. personally if your going to bother putting drums back on the rear get b/c body 11" setups (2", 2.5", 3") for the best braking.

As i said earlier the Jeep's with the 8.25 disc rear are a direct swap other than drilling the 5th hole in the plate. I cant find the thread or i would link it as ive been wanting to refresh in it myself...

hope that helps
