I'm taking off my 3" exhaust this winter and going to 3 1/2". What are the best flowing 3 1/2" mufflers? I was leaning torwards the Borla XR-1's. Does anyone have any experience with the Borla's? This will be an X pipe exhaust that is dumped in front of the rear end.

750hp 500" stroker. I picked up 5mph in the 1/4 by dropping the exhaust. Current set up is 3" x pipe with 40 series flowmasters dumped in front of the rear end.

Do yourself a favor and get rid of the X-pipe. I have 3 1/2 dumped in front of the rear. Nothing flows better then straight through Bullet mufflers. A little loud but I like noise. 2 1/2 H in the 3 1/2 pipes.

factory tank and tailpipes to boot

The camshafts, stroker cranks, and aluminum heads, have outprogressed budget mufflers. It's that simple. A pair of 29.99 apiece turbo mufflers will get you to 450 ish. h.p. Done the "X" thing.., not my preference.Simply, spend big money on big parts, don't skimp on intake/exhausts systems.

If you're looking for performance at the strip and mild manners elsewhere why not just install electric cutouts? You can run straight out at the strip and then run through you're full 3" exhaust on the street... might be easier/cheaper/less intrusive then switching to a 3-1/2" exhaust....

It only takes 3 minutes to drop the exhaust so I don't mind taking it off for running at the strip. I would like the exhaust to flow well on the street also. It doesn't bother me to spend the money on better exhaust. I built this setup and I will build the next one also so it only costs materials.

A ex street racer I know ,has a 65 GTO. 500 inch stroker,11:1 comp.(decent solid roller,300+ air flow. It was tailpipes out the back. It sounded mellow.(3" all the way,Ultra Flo's...).

Take two hoppers and two **** pipes. Put and X in the system and flush both hoppers at one time with big loads in them. What happens when the loads come to the X

Now if you were to have straight pipes and put an X in them with out the intersection. You would cause a pulsation jet valve system and it would work as an evac. But this only helps with Boost.

Some guys gain power with an X but That is only because there system diameter is to big for their motor and they need the added restriction of the X. Look at my system above. It is not fancy but at 8000 its still pulling like a freight train. I tried them all. Still have some laying here guys want to buy when them come here. The X shut my big high reving small block off at 7200 like an exhaust brake.

Like I said the only time and X works is when the peter is to small for the Kitty. Then you need to clamp it up for more friction. Many on here don't know what a big High revving motor is. Either they don't have it or they're afraid to use it all.

So I get in spats all the time with guys who have more money then brains. Once you have an X. You get impressed with your accompishments and appearance. So you will swear by it until the end.

Don't listen to the people that sell them . They will say anything and try and sell Ice to an Eskimo. If you want come and take a ride in My little Elephant Tamer. Its a little mouse but it carries a pretty big whip.

From what little i might have picked up over the years (10+Years in exhaust bussines),Borla has worldclass products and i think you will like them!
3½" usualy has a very deep sound and is quite hard to quiet down.

if and when I put exhaust on my 68 Dart it will be Borlas with at least 3 1/2" and an X-pipe. My friend runs them and all the cars he builds for customers and they are 8 and 9 sec 1/4 mile street cars. Here is his website: http://www.motivational.net
