'72 Scamp-not really a "restoration"

Hi, I like the starter you chose and the way the exhaust pipe was routed. It offers better ground clearance. Could you tell me where i can buy those headers and starter? And if you had any problems with the exhaust being so close to the starter?

Thank you,

Louwtjie

I didn't notice any heatsoak issues, but I did eventually wrap the pipe near the starter...I'll see if I can find a picture and post it. I bought the starter from DB Electrical, an eBay store. I think it cost me about $60 outright, and it was well worth it to me, but you can go to your nearest junk yard and pluck the exact same one from any Magnum equipped pickup/van probably for $20 or so.

The headers are Hedman, and I bought them from Summit, but if you read closely, the pipes which create the head pipes to the Summit 2.5" dual exhaust kit are 2.5" mandrel U bends from Columbia River Mandel Bending (I think that's the name). It took the shop about 4 hours to cut fab and weld those pieces alone. The rest of it was pretty straightforward. Overall, I'm pretty happy with that Summit kit, and will continue to be happy with it until I relocate my springs in to the frame rails...then the tailpipes will have to come off, or at least be relocated to clear the springs.

Now, on the headers, I will tell you this much; by the time I was done paying for the headers, mandrel bent sections, Summit kit, and fab/install, the tab neared $1k...there's pros and cons to either direction, but I think if I had to do it again, I'd drop the money for a really nice set of long tubes (TTI or Dougs...something that hugs the block)...changing those collector gaskets is a PITA and requires shorter wrenches, u-joint sockets, and lots of patience...a bottle of aleve would be helpful too.
