foam block under intake

can anyone provide info on the reason for the foam block under the intake on the 5.7 hemi and if i change to a 6.1 intake should i remove the foam or leave in there
 
Maybe to quiet the engine, they used a insulation pack under the b/rb intakes back in the day.
 
its for heat, and I would leave it especially if you switch to the 6.1, Im guessing the 6.1 aluminum manifold doesn't disipate heat as well as the 5.7 plastic intake... cool air=more fun...
