Stopping in while the b bodys forum is in the shop lol whats up fellas? Going to be working on a 68 barracuda soon, does anyone have the measurements for the drive shaft after doing a 383 with a 727 swap? might save me a minute.

I think my thread "went gold" was the first of the messed up threads this morning .....I thought I broke it.

I wrote a whole paragraph twice before I realized it was messed up

The rearend your using makes a difference. I.E. a 7-1/4" rearend has a different pinion length than a 8-3/4... Gotta know the rearend before anyone can guess. And as Moparlover pointed out it is best to measure YOUR CAR because their can be small differences from car to car.

Yes, it's best to put the engine/trans/axle in the car and then measure what you need.

My local drive line shop told me to put the yoke all the way in the back of the trans, then measure from center of u-joint in the front to center of u-joint in the back, then subtract 1" for installation and that is your measurement. Check with the one that you are going to use to see how they recommend to measure it.

When you measure the length for your drive shaft, make sure that you have the back of the car jacked up from under the axle. This will compress the leaf springs like the car is sitting on the ground so you get the accurate measurement. If you support the back of the car with jack stands on the frame only and let the axle hang on the unlaoded springs, the length will be too long. You must have the rear leaf springs loaded as the car sits on the ground for your measurement.
