Interesting Topic,

Lots of great player's mentioned in here and an impossible task to name the best as it's all subjective to personal opinion.

I have studied and collected baseball history for over 25 years and the Bambino's influence on the game along with his hitting and pitching prowess has to put him at number One.

If a players usage of PEDS, attitude towards the fans and fellow players, violation of the rules or lifestyle eliminates them from consideration the list would get immensely shorter and the evolution of equipment, training and the game itself are also criteria that make a huge difference.

Notably missing from the list:

Joltin Joe (Dimaggio)
The Georgia Peach (Cobb)
Wee Willie Keeler
The Big Train (Johnson)
The Flying Dutchman (Wagner)
Christy Mathewson
Tony Gwynn
Cy Young
Arnold "Jigger" Statz
The Rajah (Hornsby)

Griffey jr. Was a huge waste of money for the reds! He had a few really good years but after that he was overrated.

Now since I am from cincinnati of course I am going to say Pete Rose but I'll also throw Barry Larkin in there.

Willie Mays...could hit, could throw, could run, and was and still is, a class act off the field.

I have always liked Pete Rose, Of all the great ball players he seemed to play with more intensity then any other. He could hit, run, and had great defensive skills and I have no doubt he would have made a great manager had it not been for him getting blackballed. I never heard he intentionally through a game to win a bet, I think he always bet on himself. I felt he got a bad rap. He should be in he hall of fame.
