While replacing the rear shocks on my 74 Dart, I managed to break the bolt in the lower shock stud. I see Mancini has replacement studs. But how do I get the broken stud out of the shock plate?

I'll be thankful for any help.

I don't know how much Mancini wants for those, but I'd just look for used set of shock plates. They are fairly common in the for sale section, craigslist, and ebay.

Oh, and welcome to the site.

The "replacement stud" that you are referring to I think is for the top mount for the rear. You can't replace the stud on the shock plate if it's broken, just get a new plate...

Thanks Brad. By the way I did buy a couple of shock plates off ebay. They don't fit.

You'll need to make sure you are purchasing the correct ones for the axle housing that you currently have. 7 1/4 plates fit 7 1/4 only. 8 1/4 and 8 3/4 plates fit both 8 1/4 and 8 3/4. If you are not sure which rear axle housing you have, do a search for rear axle identification or post a pic or your axle housing taken from the rear.

I am thinking you ccould make the Mancini stud work. It looks like the same one they use for their aftermarket shock plate. You would have to cut, grind and possibly drill the old one out and replace it with the Mancini stud. Below is a pic showing how the factory welded them. The stud is about 5/8 inch diameter on this 8 3/4 plate. That being said, it would be easier and probably cheaper in the long run to buy a used one here on FABO, particularly if it is 7 1/4.

I've repaired a broken one once by grinding cutting and grinding then welded in a 5/8" allen headed shoulder bolt at work. Not too bad if you have the tools.
