What is a good budget manual steering box to replace my old worn out one? I hear of the different ratios etc.. Whats the best ratio to go with and what is the P/N of that particular ratio? I have the stock front end and column. Thanks in advanced!

This question has bothered me in my build. A 16:1 would be a blast to drive thru the curves, but increased difficulty at low speeds and parking. A 20:1 might be a good compromise, but is it worth the $500? In the end, I decided to stick with my stock 24:1, mostly based on the fact my car will be a cruiser. I can always upgrade later. I say decide what your driving priorities are and how much physical effort you are willing to put into steering your car and you will have your answer.

the least amount of force at low speeds as possible. the stock box is 24:1?

ok, thanks I'll order a stock replacement box then. Mine has so much free play it borders dangerous. The adjustment screw is almost all the way in. I haven't touched the screw. It was already like that when I bought it.

Or for about 200 drop it off at a rebuilders and get it fixed. On the manual boxes that I have done, that has been some of the best money spent.

I got a brand new unit for 260$ We shall see how it works.

I am also looking for a steering box, where did you order yours and which one did you end up getting? Was it hard to replace it?

Just installed a 20:1 ratio worm in my manual steering box in May. I like it over the 24:1 that came out of it, but a 16:1 would be way to hard on my shoulders.
