I've got a coil off a 5.2l Magnum that I want to use with an HEI module but I need to know which wire is positive and which is negative. I've attached a picture of the coil and connector.

Thanks

Green is ignition positive and white is signal from the ECU.

I just found it in an article about testing the coil, and it says to probe the green wire for 12v+ and the white/black (there are both) for a pulse from the ECU when cranking so that pretty much defines it.

Green Positive
White Negative

Interesting you should bring that coil up - it was one of my considerations for my own HEI swap. It'd work, but I believe the primary resistance is higher than a GM HEI or Ford TFI coil, and may give similar performance to a can-style coil. I'm no great expert on this, so I can't say for sure - only that it's more or less what I've been able to ascertain from the reading that I've put in.

Wound up going with a Ford TFI coil on my HEI swap for that reason (and you could probably adapt one to that Magnum bracket), though I have yet to actually run it to see how it does. Have to do the exhaust first. Excuse the messy wires; that has been taken care of since.

Thanks for the info. I'll give this one a try but consider switching out to a ford coil if it gives me any trouble.
